Ricky Martin Rallies Against New Hate Crime Laws

Ricky Martin is none too happy with Puerto Rico’s Senate right now.

Fox News Latino is reporting that the Boricua superstar has expressed disapproval over a move by the body to amend a hate-crime law. Why is the 39-year-old so upset, exactly? Because the change in the law would reportedly remove the protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of Puerto Rico.

Ricky Martin Comes Out of the Closet (Finally)

Martin took to his website to express his feelings over the move. “I'm very sad about the turn the discussion on Criminal Law is taking in Puerto Rico that proposes the elimination of aggravating factors in cases where crimes are committed out of prejudice toward the victim,” Martin wrote. The gorgeous singer came out as a gay man last year via his website and since then has been outwardly proud about his sexuality. “I am very blessed to be who I am,” he wrote in a long address on his website.

Ricky Martin is 'GLAAD' to be Gay

As for the plan for Puerto Rico’s hate-crime law, Fox News Latino also reports that the Puerto Rican chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union recently expressed its opposition to the Senate bill that would eliminate the factor in hate crimes against LGBT people and foreigners (principally represented on Puerto Rico by Dominicans).

The lower house of the Puerto Rican legislature will reportedly take up the Senate measure.

In his address, Martin added that some politicians in Puerto Rico are “promoting inequality and hate,” while great nations focus on providing their citizens with basic rights.

Ricky Martin: Although being gay makes some people uncomfortable, I'll fight for my rights

Although he's aware that some people "are uncomfortable by his nature," Puerto Rican Ricky Martin defended his sexual orientation and said that he'll continue singing, detracting some level of importance from several acts of censorship of which he's been a target of.

According to information obtained by Mexican news agency Notimex, it was upon his arrival to Nicaragua, where he was scheduled to perform Friday as part of his 'Musica+Alma+Sexo' tour, that the singer declared he is a gay man ready to defend his right.

"Yes, I am a gay man, and I'm looking for my rights," he told the government-run Radio Ya and other national media.

Although, "there are two or three people who are uncomfortable by my nature, I have no control over how they feel. I simply want to live in peace and continue singing," Martin said.

With respect to his work as an ambassador for the United Nations Fund for Children, or UNICEF, he said that he would continue fighting to eradicate child prostitution and mistreatment of people throughout the world, through the foundation that bears his name.

"Unfortunately, there are children who are forced to enter the world of prostitution and pornography, and this happens everywhere around the world. And I've been working against that for eight or nine years," he said.

After assuring that he is a happy man who enjoys his success, his children and his partner, Carlos Gonzalez, the singer promised to deliver an event tonight "that you will really enjoy. I'm going to make sure that everyone has a good time. It's going to be a big party. Viva Nicaragua!"

Kids Under 15 Won't Be Allowed To Attend Ricky Martin's Concerts In Honduras

Ricky Martin isn't exactly a favorite pop star among church goers in Honduras. Religious leaders attempted to get Ricky's upcoming concert on October 16th canceled due to its "erotic content," but the performance at the Choci Sosa stadium in Tegucigalpa will proceed as scheduled.

The group also tried to get Ricky's visa into the country denied due to his creative content and sexual orientation. Honduras is just one of his many stops during his "MAS: Música + Alma + Sexo" tour in Latin America. The Puerto Rican singer is currently in Costa Rica preparing to perform for thousands of fans in the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa tomorrow.

Although the concert in Honduras was allowed to continue, it turns out that kids under 15 will not be allowed to attend the show. According to the Minister of the Interior, Ricky's show:

"Is not the type of family that the laws of Honduras and the Honduran society wants to build and encourage to young people and the rest of the population."

The last time we checked, Ricky Martin's performances never suffered any wardrobe malfunctions. His performances are as racy as the next pop star.

Ricky Martin Calls In Police In Response To Death Threat

Ricky Martin has reportedly called in police after receiving a death threat on Twitter.com.  Ricky is doing a world on tour and was set to take his show to London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo today (July 12).

The singing star was freaking out over receiving a ‘tweet’ that said: “They will cry soon because you’re dead.”

Ricky Martin, who is a openly homosexual, had earlier said that his dad told him to be free. “My parents had known for a long time. I was worried about their reaction when I told them, but my dad said, ‘Come here and give me a kiss. Then go out there and be free and happy.’ It was more difficult to come out to my family than it was to the world,” Hello! Magazine quoted the singer as saying.

Martin has alerted authorities to the message ahead of his London Show.
