Momentum Active Wear by Elena Vasilevsky

Introducing the "Momentum"active wear inspired by idea of multi-functional busy lives of the city people .

Always on the run people need versatility and function in what they wear. Momentum is very fashion inspired active wear with elements of street wear.

You can go to the gym or dance practice  and wear it to look good and in style, or you can wear it after practice to go run your errands, eat out somewhere or wear it when you travel. It's comfortable, stylish, fits great and looks hip.

2011 Summer Fashion Trends: Floral Prints

Floral prints were most popular in the late 60′s – early 70′s, when the hippie trend was at its peak. Ever since, florals have had their ups and down in fashion, until their recent rise last spring. They quickly emerged from the runway in the high street stores and soon you could see florals everywhere. If this print used to be reserved for garments, in 2010 it spread to accessories as well. For the first time, you could see floral handbags, shoes, wallets, bracelets, headbands and what not. If you liked this trend last year, you’re gonna love it this year!

In 2010, florals mostly meant roses: shabby chic prints in tones of pink, with small roses. In 2011, we still have those, but new prints come to embrace our love for change. The catwalks took florals to the next level, with graphic prints of large flowers rather than a small repetitive pattern. For an example, look at the Stella McCartney dress above.

If you don’t like roses, but want to wear florals, you could try poppies (see Dorothy Perkins), daisies (see French Connection), daffodils (see Erdem Anneli) or something more abstract (see Etro and Barney’s). The important thing to know about such a print is that it’s very romantic, so you can wear it in two ways: either with other feminine things, like lace and ruffles, or with contrasting, edgy items, like leather and military boots.

If you would rather not wear a floral dress or skirt, but still like this trend, try a pair of floral shoes. The flats at Forever 21 are very comfy and cute, or you can choose a pair of Jeffrey Campbell wedges, with a nice, retro look. Handbags also make great floral accessories, just have a look at Aldo, Endless, Mansoon or Debenhams. And they are perfect for summer, with those light colors.

Another great thing about this print is that it can be worn anywhere. You can wear it on your bathing suit at the beach, you can wear it in the city or in the countryside, at school, for shopping, movie night or outings. But you can also wear it to an important event, a wedding, a fancy dinner or cocktail party – you just have to watch the fabrics and cuts. For evening, you may add a floral clutch to a little black dress, or pick a silk floral dress which to wear with nude accessories. But be careful – you might fall in love irrevocably with this print!

The Fantastical World of Alexander McQueen, In Shoes

Alexander McQueen existed in his own fantastical orbit - which made for some spectacular shoes.

Redefining Hardware
A striking blue bootie with a steely heel from the Spring 2010 collection.

A Vintage Print
Canvas and metal platform pumps from the Spring 2010 collection

Lobster Claw Couture
One of McQueen's jaw-dropping "Armadillo" shoes from his Spring 2010 collection

Walk, Walk, Fashion Baby
Alexander McQueen's "Armadillo" shoes are not available for purchase, although Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness, and Kelis have all been spotted wearing them.

Monstrously Beautiful
It's not likely that these metallic blue platform pumps from the Spring 2010 collection were particularly comfortable, but they were unlike anything ever seen before.

The Loveliest Torture
These silver platform pumps were featured in McQueen's Spring 2010 collection.

Deep Sea Reptile
McQueen welcomed the bold and bizarre, with his Spring 2010 collection drawing inspirations  from his love of scuba diving and reptile skins.

Moth's Eye View
Several sources claim these shoes are impossible to walk in, but heiress Daphne Guinness said she had no problem attending a gala in a nude version.

A Dangerous Glint
From a distance, these McQueen armadillo heels look as if they are encrusted in crystals. They are actually shining shards of metal.

Snake Appeal
Don't expect to see any lobster-claw shaped knockoffs on Steve Madden's shelves anytime soon. What, exactly, does one wear with such a shoe?

Buckled Bootie
A buckled claw-shaped bootie from the Spring 2010 presentation. A few models refused to walk in the show over safety concerns posed by these shoes.

Metal Mosaic
McQueen's runway shoes are so very rare, they're likely to be treated like works of art. See the magnificent craftsmanship on this metallic mosaic bootie.

Bizarre Fragility
Another pair of "Armadillo" shoes from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 collection. The shoe appears to be inlaid with slivers of gold metal.

Walking on Pearl
The pearlized ivory claw heels used in the Spring 2010 RTW presentation were particularly striking, and marvelously innovative. Hopefully they'll soon end up in a modern art museum.

Black, White, and Bold
Only Alexander McQueen would have his models take to a shattered glass runway in preposterous (and magnificent) bold houndstooth platform boots. The models looked as if they had been sewn into their shoes at his Fall 2009 RTW presentation.

Creped and Crinkled
Other pieces featured in the Fall 2009 presentation resembled Mary Janes wrapped carefully in crepe paper - to beautiful effect, of course.

As If Carved From Stone
Models wore these sparkling leather platform booties over leather tights, which gave the illusion of a full-leg boot with a shining Mary Jane strap.
Cherry Red
Many of the pieces in Alexander McQueen's Fall 2009 presentation looked like bizarro reiterations of classic pieces - like these impossibly tall and controured Mary Janes.

Length to Fall For
Over-the-knee boots have been in high demand this winter, but none looked quite so precarious as these space-age leather contraptions from the Fall 2009 presentation.
Disco Inferno
With these paillette-embellished ankle boots, McQueen seemed to be hinting at the grand drama to come in his Spring 2010 presentation.
Victoriana
A pair of intricately embroidered leather platform boots from the Fall 2009 collection.
Studded Glory
McQueen had his own innovative approach to the hardware trend, although he probably wasn't aware the trend even existed (he didn't seem to pay them much atttention, anyway).

Feathered Fancy
Like so many of Alexander McQueen's pieces, these painstakingly feathered platform heels were too beautiful and fragile to be worn anywhere but the runway.

FAT Fashion Week 2011

The FAT (Toronto Alternative Fashion Week) 2011 has come and gone with lots of excitement. It was 4 fun filled days of visual candy that ranged from fashion to photography to live music to videos to installation, how can one go wrong.

FAT BEAT

Salsa Circuit had the pleasure of attending this show and it did not disappoint.  We have taken some great shots and are happy to share them with you.  It was interesting how FAT’s 2011 theme was ‘fashion schematics’ that explored how we express ourselves through fashion and art and how that in turn translates into behaviours in our everyday world.

As you entered the venue, you just felt absorbed and transported into a different world for the night.  The first thing to notice was the crowd and how each was expressing themselves in their own unique way.  Not just everyday wear but they took it one step further to accessorize , personalize and differentiate.

Once you got past the crowd you had the alternative rock band playing, photography and visuals carefully placed for maximum impact. You then arrive at the runway stage for the alternative fashion shows.  This specific evening I had the pleasure of attending the DRESS CODES theme.  It’s aim was to explore works influenced by different cultural groups and it looked at the social significance of clothing and how it defined us.

The nice thing about FAT’s runway is that I actually saw ‘real-life’ models in the sense that it mixed petite and plus size models and it did not seem to  be limited by what show producers thought that people might want to see by having a cookie cutter approach.  It was great to see that FAT focused on a range of models that represented everyday life and the audience could better visualize the fashion on themselves.  The other thing that was evident is that it was fueled by the creative genius of new designers that did it for the passion of their art.
All in all, FAT 2011 was a success and kudos to the organizers.
