Our Most Unexpected Celeb Couplings

The recent news that Benicio del Toro was expecting a child with Kimberly Stewart (Rod Stewart’s daughter) had us all scratching our heads yesterday. Who even knew that they had ever met, much less become so intimately acquainted that they made a baby? But this isn’t the first time that a celeb couple has us all asking: What the heck is going on here?!

Here are five couples, some successful and some not, that shocked the world:

Lindsay Lohan and Wilmer Valderrama

How They Met: Wilmer is one of Hollywood’s most notorious Lothario’s and Lindsay Lohan is just notorious. So maybe it made more sense than we originally thought when they hooked up in May of 2004, but then again maybe not. The 17-year-old Freaky Friday starlet was barely legal when they began dating and they didn’t go public with their romance until her 18th birthday that July.

Current Relationship Status: Just four-months after going public (though they dated for nearly a year), their heavily documented relationship was over. We can’t say we were that surprised. Valderrama spoke out about his relationship with Lohan (and Mandy Moore and Jennifer Love Hewitt) in an infamous Howard Stern interview in 200

Kat von D & Jesse James

How They Met: Jesse James became America’s Most Hated Man when news broke that he’d cheated on Sandra Bullock (repeatedly) just days after her triumphant 2010 Oscar win. But apparently, that didn’t stop famed LA tattoo artist Kat Von D from falling for his charms and they two began dating in later that summer. After denying their romance for a few months, the couple finally came clean and have been photographed all around town since.

Current Relationship Status: Von D and James are currently engaged, and possibly already married. They are avid believers in Twitter PDA so it’s easy to keep tabs on this tattooed twosome.

Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon

How They Met: Nick Cannon fessed up to having a crush on the “Honey” singer long before they ever met, but it was on the set of Mariah’s music video for “Bye, Bye” that the sparks really began to fly. Less than two months later, Carey and Cannon married in an intimate ceremony at Mariah’s Eleuthura, Bahamas home on April 30, 2008—and we were just as shocked as everyone else when we broke the news!

Current Relationship Status: Married happily for three years and expecting their first set of babies, a matching set of boy & girl twins; this couple is going stronger than ever despite their apparent age and fame difference!

LeAnn Rimes & Eddie Cibrian

How They Met: LeAnn and Eddie met on the set of their made for television movie Northern Lights. Though both were married at the time, they couldn’t stop that feeling and soon found themselves embroiled in a cheating scandal when US Weekly magazine obtained video of them making out in a restaurant.

Current Relationship Status: Surprising everyone, us included, LeAnn and Eddie both divorced their significant others to start anew with each other. They are now engaged and plan on marrying sometime in 2011.

Melanie Griffith & Antonio Banderas

How They Met: The dashing Spanish actor and American Working Girl met on the set of the comedy Two Much in 1995. Though Griffith was still in an on-again-off-again relationship with Don Johnson, and Banderas was married to his first wife, he swept his leading off her feet and they were married a year later in May of 1996. Though Griffith has struggled with substance abuse many times over the course of their marriage, Banderas has always stood by her side.

Current Relationship Status: Still married and going strong, the couple has one daughter, Stella del Carmen Banderas Griffith. On his relationship, Banderas told Hello! magazine: “There were people who literally didn’t give us more than six months! But we love each other and above all we love our family. We’ve figured out how to get past obstacles - and some of them have been really tough ones.”

'I'm more attracted to my wife than ever,' says Nick Cannon as heavily pregnant Mariah Carey poses for nude cover shoot

'I'm more attracted to my wife than ever,' says Nick Cannon as heavily pregnant Mariah Carey poses for nude cover shoot

Mariah Carey has posed for her fair share of portraits. But none has been as personal or emotional as the singing legend unveiling her baby bump - days away from giving birth to twins.

Eight months pregnant Mariah, 42, proudly showed off the bump in time-honoured celebrity fashion - in an exclusive cover shoot with a magazine.

Bronzed, radiant, with her hair tumbling softly about her shoulders, the chart-topping singer looked relaxed as she awaits the arrival of her first children, a boy and a girl.

I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience,' Carey told Life & Style magazine.

Mariah Carey (L) and singer Nick Cannon arrive at the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium.

Expectant: Mariah and husband Nick Cannon seen at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last year

'My ultimate goal was to share this incredibly personal moment with my true fans.'

Carey joins a number of pregnant stars who have posed nude while heavily pregnant. Demi Moore famously appeared naked on the cover of Vanity Fair in August 1991 while seven months pregnant with daughter Scout LaRue.

Many have copied that pose, including Christina Aguilera, who was pictured pregnant with son Max on the January 2008 cover of Marie Claire.

Carey's twins - a boy and a girl - were clearly ready for their close-ups. She said: 'The babies were kicking almost the entire time; it was unbelievable.

'Especially the girl - clearly she’s a diva in training. We didn’t start shooting until 1:30am because I was in the hospital from the night before until the day of the shoot with contractions five minutes apart!'

Clearly, although Carey isn't due to give birth for a few weeks, the twins could be making their entrance sooner rather than later.

The We Belong together singer suffered a scare when she was admitted to hospital last month with early contractions. But for now, she and her husband Nick Cannon are enjoying their last few days as a household of two.

Cannon said he has never been more attracted to his wife. 'I thought I couldn’t love Mariah more,” he tells Life & Style.

'But I have a whole new appreciation and admiration for her.'

Penelope Cruz: The Very First Spanish Actress to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star

It was no surprise that Penelope Cruz will definitely get her Hollywood Walk of Fame star because of her superb acting career and undeniably beautiful face. But there is beyond that she must be proud of, and that is of becoming the very first Spanish actress to receive a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The unveiling ceremony of her star took place on Friday, April 1, at 11:30 am in front of the El Capitan Theatre, 6834 Hollywood Boulevard, in which she was proudly joined in with her husband Javier Bardem and the cast of her latest movie with Johnny Depp “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” set to be released in May 20, 2011. Renowned movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall were also there to show their support to Penelope.

The Latina actress dressed in a body fitting 3/4 length sleeve purple dress from  L’Wren Scott Fall 2011 collection graciously accepted her star and acknowledge the day "a very special day that I will always remember."

The ceremony was really touching and humorous at the same time because of the message Penelope addressed to her long time friend and co-star Johnny Depp.

“I want to thank the man with the hat. Let me tell you about the man with the hat. I came to Los Angeles for the first time in 1994, I spoke no English. I only knew how to say two things, two sentences. One was, ‘How are you?’, the other one was, ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp. In the last 10 years I have worked with him twice and that has improved my English, so now I know how to say, ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp again!’”said Penelope

After being in the film industry for 20 years in a row, all her hard work has paid off.
This honorable merit is her “second firsts” in her fruitful acting career as she was also the first Spanish actress to win the covetous Academy Award in 2008.

Penelope Cruz indeed has proven that she is not just a pretty face with a strange American accent, modeling for renowned fashion and cosmetic brands like Mango, Ralph Lauren and L'Oréal but a versatile actress that can play her roles that are required in the movies effectively. She is one true exemple that your accent is no big deal at all when you can definitely blow their mind with your excellent acting skills.

Let us take a glimpse on how Penelope began conquering the acting world and later on the Hollywood:
At the age 15, she made her first movie debut “Jamon, Jamon” in 1992, succeeded by Open Your Eyes (1997), The Hi-Lo Country (1999), The Girl of Your Dreams (2000) and Woman on Top (2000) wherein she showed her innate acting skills.

After that, she starred in different movies in different genres like comedy, thriller, action adventure, musical drama and even animated. The movies that mark her superstardom are are Volver (2006), for which she earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), for which she received an Academy Award.

More so, Penelope is also involved in some charity endeavors for organizations like Worldwide (RED) campaign lead by Bono and Bobby Shiver,  Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti (APJ), UNICEF The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Legendary Actress Elizabeth Taylor dies at 79

anpop

The renowned humanitarian legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor passed away, March 23, 1 :28 AM at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles due to congestive heart failure, a disease she had been battling for years.

According to news, the glamorous actress died in peace surrounded by her family at the hospital where she had been confined six weeks ago.

In her seven decade career, Elizabeth Taylor was among the most controversial actress in aspects of life and love. Her remarkable portrayal in the 1944 film “National Velvet” at the age 12 gave her five Oscar nominations and was the start of a successful acting career. Other award winning movies she starred with were Butterfield 8" (1960), “Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and “Cleopatra” in 1961 which is said to be the most expensive movie ever made at that time. The last movie she starred with is the live action comedy "The Flintstones" in 1994.

Elizabeth Taylor’s natural born angelic beauty somewhat made her the most sought leading lady of her time and have made the hottest men in the industry at that time fall into their knees. As a matter of fact, her love life was the most controversial one in the Hollywood history being married eight times to different men.
Unfortunately, her eight marriages all ended up in divorce and health problems due to drug and liquor addiction overshadowed her successful career. She has gained weight and was hospitalized several times and has entered the Betty Ford Center in California for treatment.

Her controversial men in life:

Conrad "Nicky" Hilton (May 6, 1950 – January 29, 1951)-divorced after nine months

 Michael Wilding (February 21, 1952 – January 26, 1957) –divorced due to a 20-year age gap

Michael Todd (February 2, 1957 – March 22, 1958)-ended due to Todd’s death

Eddie Fisher (May 12, 1959 – March 6, 1964)-he was Todd’s best friend. This is her scandalous marriage.

Richard Burton (March 15, 1964 – June 26, 1974)-said to be the bets match at that time. Their marriage was tagged as "the most famous film star in the world and the man many believed to be the finest classical actor of his generation."

Richard Burton (October 10, 1975 – July 29, 1976)- she remarried Burton after sixteen months of divorcing.

John Warner (December 4, 1976 – November 7, 1982)-she became depressed and unhappy to be his wife and ended up for a divorce. This was the start of her alcohol addiction problem.

Larry Fortensky (October 6, 1991 – October 31, 1996)- also ended up in divorce.

When her good friend Rock Hudson died of AIDS in 1985, she was determined to change her life and overcome addiction by getting involved in Aids awareness crusade and raise money to help treat the victims of that deadly disease.

The death of her friend became an awakening message to then 53 year-old Taylor.

"She was among the first to speak out on behalf of people living with HIV when others reacted with fear and often outright hostility," said The American Foundation for AIDS Research, of which Taylor was founding national chairman.

With this worthy endeavor, Elizabeth was honored with a title of “Dame” (a female knighthood)  by Queen Elizabeth herself in 2000.

Even when she was deeply suffering from her illness, Elizabeth Taylor cuddled in a wheelchair never misses her charity events and appearances.

Though Elizabeth stumbled in her middle age, she manages to rebound and became a better person and has lived a good life that is worth remembering.

"My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love," her son Michael said.

Elizabeth Taylor's History with Mexico

Elizabeth Taylor (far left) married her third husband, producer Mike Todd, in a civil service performed by the Acapulco Mayor Mario Lopetequi on February 3, 1957. The simple ceremony was attended by (from left) Enrique Parra, Debbie Reynolds, Mike Todd, Jr., Eddie Fisher and Mario 'Cantinflas' Moreno. This was the only one of Taylor's eight marriages to not end in divorce. Todd was killed when his private plane Lucky Liz crashed in New Mexico on March 22, 1958.

Casa Kimberley was the $40,000 villa Richard Burton bought Taylor in the 1960s when she accompanied him to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico while he filmed The Night of the Iguana. The small fishing village of Puerto Vallarta was put on the tourist map by the film and by Burton and Taylor's frequent trips to their home. Casa Kimberley's seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms were not enough for the tumultuous pair. They built another villa across the street and connected the two with a pink bridge inspired by Venice's Bridge of Sighs. It was widely reported that Taylor would banish Burton to his 'doghouse' across the bridge when he was behaving badly.

Taylor owned the four-story home until 1990. She sold the home with all its furnishings and belongings, including her clothes in the closet and personal pictures on the walls. The new owners turned Casa Kimberley into a bed and breakfast while also allowing for tours until recently when they sold the complex to make way for fancy condos.

During the Christmas holiday of 1963, Taylor and her longtime love Richard Burton (not pictured) distributed clothing and toys to over 400 needy adults and children in Puerto Vallarta.

Taylor is seen here filming Hammersmith is Out in Cuernavaca, Mexico on May 8, 1971. The comedy, also starring Richard Burton and Beau Bridges, took place in Texas but was filmed entirely in Mexico.

A mere four months before their first divorce in June of 1974, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were honored by President Luis Echeverria Alvarez on the grounds of his Mexico City presidential house.
