5 Epic Latino Rivalries

Earlier this week, when a judge sided with Jennifer Lopez to block the release of a video by her ex-husband Ojani Noa, another round in the J.Lo vs. Ojani rivalry came to an end, with Lopez as the victor. But Lopez and Noa's rivalry has been going on for 13 years, so we're guessing that this wont be the last time these two square off in court. And watching Noa continue to try and destroy Lopez got us thinking about other epic Latino rivalries in Hollywood. Here are five that are unforgettable.

Daisy Fuentes and Mariah Carey

Here's what went down: While Luis Miguel was dating Daisy Fuentes, the playboy singer cheated on Daisy with Mariah Carey. And in 1998, he also dumped Fuentes, his girlfriend of three years, for Carey. Something tells us Daisy's not a big fan of Mimi's music.

Jennifer Lopez vs. Ojani Noa

They tied the knot in 1997 and untied the same knot 11 months later. Since then, Jennifer Lopez and her ex-husband Ojani Noa have been involved in one of the most bitter rivalries of all-time! In 2006, when Ojani tried to publish a tell-all book about their marriage, Lopez sued him and won over $500,00 in compensatory damages. She sued him again in 2009 for $10 million when he attempted to release a film called How I married Jennifer Lopez: The JLo and Ojani Noa Story. Most recently, Noa tried to release a video tape of Lopez as a movie, but last Friday, an appeals court sided with J.Lo and ordered that an invasion of privacy lawsuit she filed against her first husband be handled in arbitration rather than through a public court case. While their latest fight is over, something tells us this rivalry isn't. Talk about unhappily ever after!

Univision vs. Telemundo

Univision's got the hit reality show, Nuestra Belleza Latina, Telemundo's got the top-rated telenovela La Reina del Sur and they've both got one big problem: each other! While Univision is considered the Spanish-language giant and has announced plans to launch three new networks by 2012, Telemundo is hot on the network's heels as the second-largest Spanish-language network in the United States. This spring, Telemundo even managed to steal "The Latina Oprah" (Christina Saralegui) from Univision, which should bode well for the network's ratings next year. On January 28th, 2011, Comcast completed a $6.5 billion dollar deal acquisition of a 51% majority stake in NBC Universal, acquiring control of Telemundo as part of the deal, so don't be surprised if Telemundo eventually dethrones Univision.

Perez Hilton vs. Carrie Prejean

The Queen of all Media has had plenty of rivals in Hollywood, including Black Eyed Peas singer, Will.i.am, Miley Cyrus, Rumer Willis and Lindsay Lohan, but his rivalry with Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean in 2009 is the Cuban blogger's most epic public fight. It all started when Perez served as a guest judge during the Miss USA pageant, and asked Prejean a question about same-sex marriage. Prejean replied that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and Perez, who thought the answer was homophobic, proceeded to blast Prejean daily on his website, Perezhilton.com, calling her answer the 'worst answer in pageant history," and calling her a dumb bi***." Ouch.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato vs. Miley Cyrus

In 2009, best friends Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato made funny videos on youtube together where they danced, and joked around for hours. While we thought the videos were very funny and cute, there was someone who wasn't so impressed with them: Miley Cyrus. Cyrus and her best friend Mandy Jiroux must not have liked the attention Selena and Demi were getting, because they posted a video in which they mocked and imitated Demi and Selena, making fun of their outfits and their physical appearance.

8 Shocking Latino Celebrity Scandals and the Aftermath!

We were all shocked (shocked!) when we heard about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s affair with his Guatemalan housekeeper Mildred Particia Baena. His wife, Maria Shriver, seems determined to get a divorce, while Baena has remained silent and kept herself out of the public eye.

It got us thinking about all the celebs we know who have survived scandals. Some have even managed to convert their notoriety to popularity and leveraged their mistakes to the advantage of their careers.

Take a trip down memory lane with us...

Dayanara Torres
Torres survived a highly publicized divorce from her hubby of almost four years Marc Anthony with her head held high—even when he married international pop star Jennifer Lopez just days after their paperwork was finalized. If there is a model for how to behave in the public eye after divorce, she would be it. Since the split in 2004, Torres has refused to say anything negative to the press about her ex-husband or his new wife and has made sure that her children with the salsa crooner have healthy relationships with everyone in the large, mixed family. In 2008 she wrote a self-help book called Married to Me, which she said she was inspired to create when she failed to find useful advice to help her get through her own divorce.

Michelle Rodriguez
M.Rod has had her share of ups and downs, but the Dominican/Puerto Rican actress always seems to rise above the drama. But back on December 1, 2005, Rodriguez was arrested on DUI charges while filming for Lost and eventually served 18 days of jail after she was found to be in violation of her probation in 2007. We were a bit worried she might not be able to climb her way back to the top of the Hollywood game, but boy, were we wrong! Since then, Rodriguez has made a concerted effort to clean up her image and put a stop to all the hard partying that kept getting her in trouble. She landed a role in the highest grossing film of all time (Avatar), reprised her role as Letty in the smash hit Fast & Furious series and is currently working on her own screenplay.

Paulina Rubio

Paulina Rubio has always had a reputation as a hard partying musician, but when she was rejected for U.S. citizenship due to positive drug tests, it no longer seemed like it was all fun and games. In 2007, the then 36-year-old and her husband Nicolas Vallejo-Nagera allegedly applied for a visa at the U.S. consulate in Juarez, Mexico, but were rejected when the tests came back positive for marijuana use, while Vallejo-Najera's also showed results for ecstasy and cocaine. Paulina’s reps denied the reports and Rubio was eventually granted citizenship and now lives in Miami with her hubby and their baby boy, Andrea Nicolas. She is currently planning to release a bilingual album in 2011/2012.

Jackie Guerrido
The scandal between Don Omar and his (ex?) wife Jackie Guerrido may have ironically enough, been the best thing that ever happened to the Univision weather girl’s career. After marrying the reggaeton star on April 19, 2008 in a lavish, star-studded affair in Puerto Rico, just over a year later, Don Omar was banned from the Univision studios after reportedly going ballistic during a fight with his new wife. All the drama hasn’t really hurt her career at all, if anything it elevated her profile! She is still the weather girl for Univision’s Primer Impacto and in 2010, Guerrido participated in Mira Quien Baila! coming in second place.

Corina Villaraigosa
As the daughter of devout Roman Catholic parents, we doubt Corina ever imagined her 1987 marriage would end in divorce. But after extensive media coverage exposed an ongoing affair that her husband, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (who changed his name as a symbol of their “fidelity”), was having with Telemundo journalist Mirthala Salinas, she had little choice but to file papers. It wasn’t the first time that there were reports of infidelity and their marriage had already weathered many a storm. The Villaraigosas’ first breakup happened back in 1994, when Corina filed for divorce after learning that her husband had an affair while she was undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer. Since the divorce was finalized in 2010, Corina has stayed out of the public eye.

Jennifer Lopez
Remember when Lopez was dating Sean 'Puffy' Combs? Yeah, it was hard for us to recall too, but it happened, and it all came to a head in a dangerous gun battle outside of a NYC nightclub back on December 27, 1999 that left three people wounded. Jennifer and Puffy were both charged with criminal possession of a gun, though charges against Lopez were almost immediately dropped due to lack of evidence and she was released. Obviously, J.Lo rose above the incident and has since maintained an incredibly lucrative (and scandal-free) career in music, film and television. She was recently named #50 on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list.

Jenni Rivera
Wherever La Diva de la Banda goes, drama follows. She told us so herself in her May cover story: “I wish I could be like Mary J. Blige,” she told writer Grace Bastidas. “No more drama. I’m always done with it, but drama’s not done with me. I’m used to it.” To what is she referring? In June 2008, she spent a few hours in jail for hitting a fan with a mic during a concert in Raleigh, N.C. after he reportedly threw a beer can onstage. Also in 2008, a personal sex tape was stolen from her home and made its rounds on the Internet. Last year, the mother of five stood by her son Michael after he was arrested for allegedly having sex with a minor. But has all that slowed down her success? Not one bit. Take, for instance, Jenni Rivera Enterprises, a hugely profitable company that includes a fragrance and cosmetics line, a jeans and sportswear line, and TV production (I Love Jenni, on mun2).

Perez Hilton
Perez Hilton has seen his fair share of scandal since starting “Hollywood’s Most Hated Website.” But he really got in trouble when he posted a photo of Demi Moore’s daughter alongside the quote, “Tallulah Willis, 15, dressing like a slut! Look at her boobs!" Demi understandably went ballistic, threatening to sue him for promoting child pornography. We’d like to say he learned his lesson, but just a few months later, he posted a photo of 17-year-old Miley Cyrus climbing out of a SUV in a short white dress. Though Hilton insisted he did not choose the photo because it looked like she wasn’t wearing underwear, the gossip blogger caught a ton of flack. At the 2009 Much Music Awards in Toronto, the blogger was punched in the face in a confrontation involving Fergie (or whom he used to call “Fugly”). His attacker was reportedly her bandmate Will.i.am’s manager. Since then, Perez has changed the tone of his popular website after taking on the cause of gay teen bullying. "Over the last week and a half a lot of people have said that I am a hypocrite,” he said in October of 2010. “That I'm one of the biggest bullies out there, and there is truth to that…I need to change, and I'm going to start today." And he has. Bravo!

Latino Stars Who Rule the Twitterverse

Here's a round-up of our fave celebs to follow on Twitter and why:

Mariah Carey: @MariahCarey
Followers: 4,063,790

Why You Should Follow: Because the woman tweets while having contractions for crying out loud! This weekend, after being rushed to the hospital on her b-day following a false labor scare, the pop princess made sure to let all her little lambs know that everything was OK.

Typical Tweet:  “They almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: ) #soreadyallready!”

Shakira: @shakira

Why You Should Follow: Shakira is a citizen of the world and it shows! The Colombian pop star spends as much time on her philanthropic and political endeavors as she does on her music and her Twitter is a trilingual celebration of her can-do attitude. She also uses social media to share personal news, as she did when she announced her break-up from Antonio de la Rua. Soon after, her new bf Gerard Pique was posting photos of their joint birthday celebration on Facebook!

Ricky Martin: @ricky_martin
Twitter Followers: 2,624,994

Why You Should Follow: Ricky Martin is about as beautiful inside as he is on the outside. He consistently uses his Twitter account to uplift his followers, share important news about children’s rights and give his fans input into stuff like his set list for his upcoming Musica+Sexo+Alma tour (MAS) which just kicked off in Martin’s home town of San Juan, PR.

Why You Should Follow: Daddy Yankee has a lot of really serious fans following him on Twitter and if you’re into Spanish-language Urban music you should be following him too! DY and his nation are always tweeting about the coolest new stuff any guy would love, like the NBA Dunk contest, New York City and…Elizabeth Taylor?! Hey, Yankee has diverse interests.

Typical Tweet: “ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE- DY "PRESTIGE" ✈✈✈✈✈✈✈ to NYC.

Perez Hilton: @PerezHilton
Twitter Followers: 3,135,037

Why You Should Follow: Perez may have started “Hollywood’s Most Hated Website” but the gossip king shows nothing but love to his celeb friends on Twitter. From Lady Gaga to Selena Gomez, Hilton is always dishing with the biggest stars. His recent Blue Ball birthday party was an example of how much Hollywood actually loves the Cuban blogger, everyone and their mother was in attendance.

Typical Tweet: “@ladygaga I love you so much! Thank you for being a REAL friend! I will cherish your present forever! Let's hope I don't die using it! Ha xo”

Selena Gomez: @selenagomez
Twitter Followers: 4,576,033

Why You Should Follow: Sure, her beau Justin Bieber’s rabid Beliebers may be threatening her life, but Gomez isn’t going to let a little thing like a death threat keep her away from her Twitter! Selena consistently uses her tweets to share love with her fans, and debut new music and projects. But we love her pics most of all, like the one she retweeted today of her recent reunion with former bestie (and fellow Twitter lover) Demi Lovato!

Typical Tweet: “Who says your not beautiful, party like it's not your birthday @AllstarWeekend + my scene = epic summer tour!! Soooo excited :)”

Jessica Alba: @jessicaalba
Twitter Followers: 1,185,792

Why You Should Follow: Jessica Alba’s Twitter account is refreshingly mundane for an A-list Hollywood starlet. She uses the service to share cute photos of with friends and family and occasionally pick a funny fight with hubby Cash Warren (also a rabid Tweeter) over American Idol. But she also dropped a big bomb earlier this year via the social networking tool, telling fans and followers that she was pregnant with baby number 2 before any tabloid was able to break the news.

Typical Tweet: “Sorry @cash_warren no matter how much you practice you will never sound like Jacob Lusk.”

Enrique Iglesias: @enrique305
Twitter Followers: 821,209

Why You Should Follow: Enrique’s popularity is only growing on the immense popularity of his latest album Euphoria. Iglesias has been tweeting pics from the tour consistently, showing us night after night of sold-out crowds. He’s also not afraid to show a little man love (he only follows two people: Pitbull and Cristiano Ronaldo) on Twitter and gives props to his musical collaborators, as unlikely as they may seem at times!

Typical Tweet: “Hey guys follow @RedOne_Official! He's truly a musical genius, so you should check out all the great artist he's working with. He's like a brother to me and I'm so proud of all his accomplishments.”
