We had a feeling (an actual on the record feeling) that this was coming. In a season that has seen dancer after dancer eliminated as pairs, "So You Think You Can Dance" cut partners Ashley and Chris -- whose salsa failed to impress the judges or the voting public on Wednesday's performance night.
Also in the bottom six, but surviving to dance another week: Jordan and Tadd.
"[The voters] must've went to the kitchen while they were dancing," said judge Mary Murphy. Maybe not -- maybe America's just not down with the waltz when there's more exciting fare on offer.
Finally, rounding out the roster of those required to dance for their survival: Ryan and Ricky which came as a bit of a surprise to us and to Ryan who couldn't hold back the tears when her proximity to the stage door was announced.
Also worth noting: Guest judge Carmen Electra was absent. She perhaps had other plans? We don't know because no mention was made of her whereabouts. Couldn't the producers have hustled Kim Kardashian -- who was in the audience -- into a judge's chair in her place? She kind of looks like Carmen.
Well, she probably wouldn't have added much anyway. All the dancers needed to hear was said by producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe: "You need to give us different sides of you now. You need to up your game if you stay with us tonight."
Amidst all the carnage there was one bright spot. And by bright spot we mean well-executed wistful performance from a buzzed about band. Florence and the Machine brought down the house with their "Cosmic Love." Meanwhile, the evening's featured guest dancers -- the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet -- was fine, but nothing to text home about.
And then there were 12.
