Shakira and Demi Lovato Top Celebs Gone Good List!

Latinas have been doing a lot of good this year and on top of the DoSomething.org list of Celebs Gone Good Top 20 list are superstars Shakira and Demi Lovato! The Hollywood Reporter reports that part-Mexican singer/actress Lovato and Colombian singer/activist Shakira ranked at numbers 10 and 11 respectively.

Lovato has been advocating for anti-bullying campaigns for years and since she came clean about her own eating disorder issues, she has been a force in educating teens about the harmful effects of that way of life. Shakira has already been honored at the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards as Person of the Year for her work with her own Barefoot Foundation building schools in impoverished South American communities.

Shakira Appointed to President Obama’s Education Advisory Board

Aria Finger, COO of DoSomething.org said there are trends in the list this year. “It's dominated by young celebrities and we also see so many couples.”

The organization used Facebook voting to help determine the ranking of celebrities with a cause. Rather than bestow an honor based on giving money, criteria reqired for making the list included taking action for a cause such as founding a foundation, building houses, or writing articles.

Demi Lovato Returns to Rehab – As Speaker

Finger added that, “There are a handful of other celebrities who just missed the cut-off this year. We look forward to seeing what they will do in 2012.” Among those who almost made the list were part-Mexican singer/actress Selena Gomez.

It’s good to see Latin celebrities making a difference in the world. They’re making us proud!

Shakira reveals shocking new look, gets personal (VIDEO)

As part of her promotional tour for her 'Shakira: En Vivo Desde Paris' (Shakira: Live From Paris) DVD, the Grammy-winning singer gave an exclusive interview with Maria Elena Salinas, which turned into a special episode of Univision's 'Aqui y Ahora' (Here and Now). At the same time, the Colombian pop singer uploaded the picture at left on her Twitter page, where she shared her dramatically different -- and short -- tresses.

During the hour-long interview, Shakira delved into matters she seldom, if ever, discusses, such as when her first album actually bombed, her fear of not doing things right, the men in her life and her current relationship with Gerard Pique. She also shared her discontentment with the paparazzi and even how she wants to take measures against it.

But the subject closest to the singer had little to do with music or romance but rather with childhood poverty of Latinos in the United States vs. the great potential and strength we have.

THE SCALES TIP
This has been a year of change and new ties. I feel a great sense of pride to be Hispanic. The star on the Walk of Fame is proof that dreams do come true. I always tell parents of the children in the Bare Feet Foundation schools to dream as much and as high as they want, and to allow their kids to do the same.

FEAR OF FAILURE
The road to success is paved with defeats. The important thing is to get up. A politician once used a phrase that I love: "The important thing isn't that you put your foot in it, it's to get it out quickly."

There is always the threat of failure, like a shadow that follows you everywhere. When I crossed over -- on 'Laundry Service' [in 2001] -- I faced a language I didn't speak. When I began to write my songs in English, I had to do it with a dictionary next to me. Ironically, that disc sold 3 million copies.

THE ZENITH OF HER CAREER
I know that things have gone well and that I've reached my goals and dreams, but the feeling is that we live on the verge of the abyss and that we have to keep doing things rights, better.

FAME
Everything has its good and bad, and people remind you all the time. It's been so long since I began this path that I forget how my life was previously. Of course, I remember my life, but not the dividing line between the before and after becoming famous. Everything happened gradually, and that has made the process healthier. I can't imagine what it's like for those that suddenly become famous.

PRIVATE LIFE VS. PUBLIC INTEREST
With [longtime former boyfriend] Antonio [De La Rua] it was easy because we worked together. It's been a year since we haven't. We're very good friends. The difficult part is wanting a private life and suddenly it becomes everyone else's.

With Gerard [Pique] I've decided to preserve a bit more of my privacy. I'm very content with him and we're very happy. He's a man that makes me very happy.

POLICING THE PAPARAZZI
I don't mind that people want to know about my personal life; it's part of the vestiges of the career to which I'm dedicated, but the paparazzi bothers me. There should be paparazzi police to get them under control a bit. They're dangerous because they're everywhere. They were even separating us [Pique and I] because they couldn't capture an image of us together. I think all the paparazzi were on vacation in Ibiza. We both looked at each other and asked, "Where's the paparazzi? We're not important anymore?"

FIGHTING FOR HISPANICS IN THE U.S.
We Hispanics have to look at ourselves in the mirror and realize what we represent to this country. We're a very powerful arm that is productive and energizes this country's economy. But Latino students get left behind because they don't get to college -- they abandon school. This is a real worrisome problem because three out of four Latino children are poor, living below the poverty line. Meanwhile, 22 percent of U.S. schools are filled with Latino kids.

Part of what I do with [President Barrack] Obama is to contribute in some way so that our Latino kids will have the opportunity they deserve. That's why a commission has been designated to address the needs of Latino students, so that there are quality programs available. These days I'm obsessed because I believe we Latinos deserve the very best.

Person of the Year: Shakira overcome with emotion as her father sings to his 'pretty girl' (VIDEOS)

LAS VEGAS -- One of the most emotional moments of the Latin Recording Academy's tribute to its 2011 Person of the Year, Shakira, was when the singer's father, William Mebarak Chadid, took the stage to sing a song dedicated to his daughter.

Shakira was overcome with emotion as her father addressed her, especially as he sang of the happiness that overwhelms him for having such a successful daughter, who received such an homage from friends and fellow musicians in the music industry.

She wept tears of joy as her father, who is also a singer, serenaded her with 'Es Mi Niña Bonita' (She's My Pretty Girl).

Shakira began her evening aglow as she arrived at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in a flowing, opaque blue-green gown, her hair up in a braid to one side. When AOL Latino asked her who she would dedicate the Latin Recording Academy tribute, the multiplatinum-selling singer didn't flinch: "To the special person who has been in my life over the last few months," a very clear and direct reference to her soccer star boyfriend, Pique.

Among the artists on hand to pay tribute to the 'Hips Don't Lie' and 'Whenever, Wherever' singer were Marc Anthony, Alejandra Guzman, Pepe Aguilar, Jorge Drexler, Franco De Vita, Natalia Jimenez, Victor Manuel, Aleks Syntek and Gilberto Santa Rosa.

She was moved, and at times to tears, over the parade of artists who sang each of the hits that have defined the Colombian's career. When Argentine Jorge Drexler took the stage and dedicated his song to comatose, Argentine rock icon Gustavo Cerati, Shakira could not hold back the tears.

The honoree was by her parents' side the whole night, and a special moment came when her father serenaded her with the song 'Es Mi Niña Bonita' (She's My Pretty Girl) to a slideshow of the singer's childhood years on a bigscreen. Between the surprises and emotion, the Barranquilla, Colombia native shed more than a tear before shaking her famous hips with Puerto Rican Salsa star Victor Manuel, who lavished praise on the singer, reminding her that "with bare feet she left Barranquilla," a reference to the singer's tireless work for underprivileged Colombian children through her Fundacion Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet Foundation).

Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony's arrival was one of the big suprises of the night. "I got here right on time. It's a huge honor to be here, absolutely an honor," emphasized Jennifer Lopez' ex-husband, who recognized Shakira's humanitarian work.

Shakira took the stage to lighten the mood and give thanks to those who took part in honoring her.

"I didn't realize my songs [sung by fellow artists and friends] could sound so good. Thank you for making so much music possible. Thanks to my parents -- my daddy for that song. Thank you to my parents, who have taught me the value of hard work and dedication," she emphasized.

The honoree herself took the stage on her night to do what she does best, no doubt honoring her country and home to the infectious and unmistakable rhythm of 'Barranquilla.'

2011 Latin Grammy Awards: The Show, The Winners

Putting together another lively ceremony, the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were held at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Thursday night (November 10).

Once again capturing the prize of Album of the Year for ”Entren Los Que Quieran” was Calle 13, who took home a show-topping nine trophies while Shakira was named Person of the Year by the Latin Recording Academy.

The Colombian beauty also won the Best Female Pop Album award for her “Sale El Sol" while performing a a trio of songs including “Antes de las Seis,” “Devoción” and “Loca”.

The Latin Grammys also featured a performance of "Rain Over Me" by Pitbull, who was joined onstage by fellow singer Marc Anthony, as well as a rendition of "Solamente tú" by Demi Lovato and Pablo Alborán.

With appearances by celebrity presenters such as Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana and Adrienne Bailon, Lifetime Achievement Awards were bestowed upon Joe Arroyo, Gal Costa, José Feliciano, Alex Lora, Les Luthiers, Rubén Rada and Linda Ronstadt.

Shakira to Receive Star in Hollywood Walk of Fame

Shakira’s legacy will live on indefinitely in Hollywood now that the “Rabiosa” singer will be honored with a star on its Walk of Fame on later this month.

The Colombian superstar is scheduled to have her name cemented in the legendary walkway on Nov. 8, just hours before receiving the ‘Person of the Year' accolade as part of the 2011 Latin Grammys ceremony the next day for her philanthropic contributions.

She joins fellow Latinas Christina Aguilera and Penélope Cruz, who also have a star in the Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce posted the news on its website Tuesday, adding a detailed biography of the Shakira, which includes background information on her non-profit organization “Pies Dezcalsos” and her newest accomplishment—being chosen by President Barack Obama as his Latin American education ambassador.

It also pointed out that Shakira is “the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time.”

The ceremony is set to take place across the street from the W Hollywood Hotel in the popular Hollywood and Vine corner.

Earlier this year, Shakira also received an award from Harvard University.

The award, a medal with Harvard president Drew Faust’s signature encrypted on it, was presented at the Annual Cultural Rhythms ceremony.

“The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation are honored to present multi- platinum artist Shakira with the 2011 Artist of the Year award,” S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation, told the Harvard Gazette.

“Her contributions to music and distinguished history of creativity have been applauded by people throughout the world, and she is greatly admired worldwide for her humanitarian efforts through her Barefoot Foundation,” he added.

Shakira will become the youngest person to ever be honored at the upcoming ‘Person of the Year Gala’ event the eve of the Latin Grammys, in Las Vegas.

She follows in the footsteps of famous Latinos like Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin and Placido Domingo have received this honor in past years.

Pop singer Shakira was given an appointment in the Obama Administration Wednesday.

¿Qué? What?

At first I thought this was a Hispanic Heritage Month joke. But seriously the Colombian-born singer was appointed to serve on the president's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, according a White House press release.

I first wondered what makes the pop singer qualified to serve on an educational commission. Her bio gives some details.

In 1995, Shakira founded the Barefoot Foundation, which operates schools and educational projects in Colombia, South Africa and Haiti that feed and educate around 6,000 children.

In 2003, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund.

In 2008, Shakira served as the Honorary Chair of the Global Campaign for Education’s Global Action Week.

Clearly in addition to making Grammy-winning music she has donated her time to educational issues.

Now there are others with more experience in government and the educational system than Shakira. Many of those experts also are on the commission.

If Shakira can be a spokeswoman or a role model for Latino students and encourage them to stay in school, that is positive.

The high school drop out rate for Hispanics in the United States is around 18 percent. Just under 20 percent of Latinos in the United States have a college degree compared with 41 percent of the general population.

With statistics like that Shakira can help spread the word about the importance of earning a high school diploma or a college degree.

Pop Star Shakira Buys Private Island

Shakira and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters have bought a Caribbean island together.

The Colombian singer – who is currently dating Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique – has joined forces with the musician to purchase the $16 million site of Bonds Cay, north of the Bahamas, in order to build a resort which will cater for millionaire holidaymakers.

Shakira, 34, and Roger, 68, are reportedly hoping to "reinvent the concept of tourism" by building both a set of luxury holiday homes which will also include private beaches and a number of hotels with plans to sell prime seaside property on the island.

Bonds Cay has five beaches and three bays, along with a number of waterfalls and Shakira and Roger have also made plans to build an artists' retreat which will house a series of artists-in-residence, galleries populated with up-and-comers' works and a programme offering semester-long sabbaticals.

Arturo Rubinstein, a Miami-based investor involved in the project, said: "It's not about having 200 speedboats and an 18-hole golf course. I would say it is an explosion of the senses. It's a concept more related to art and culture."

Shakira's former boyfriend Antonio De La Rua and New York City financial services firm Guggenheim Capital were also involved in the purchase when it was first proposed in 2006 but it is unclear if this is still the case.

John Christie, vice president of Caribbean real estate brokerage H.G. Christie told Bahamas4u.com: "It's a beautiful island. It's got some height to it, which means as you build up, you get better views. There is the ocean to the east of it so you've got reefs and views of turquoise water. On the other side of the island is limey, light turquoise water because it is shallow. It's a great fishing area."

Shakira To Be Named "Person Of The Year" At Latin Grammy's

This one is huge and well-deserved! Shakira may be a three-time current Latin Grammy nominee, but now she is also being honored as the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. The Colombian pop star, who has won a total of seven Latin Grammy's and two Grammy's in the past, will be honored for her renowned creative and philanthropic efforts at a tribute dinner on November 9th in Las Vegas.

Shakira's most popular tracks will be performed by pop artists and friends of the honoree. A major portion of the proceeds from the gala will benefit her Pies Descalzos Foundation as well as The 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which will be broadcast live on the Univision on Thursday, November 10th at 8 pm ET/7 pm PT.

The President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa Jr., reacted to her nomination:

    "I am elated on behalf of The Latin Recording Academy and its Board of Trustees that the much admired Shakira — whose incredible talent and artistic integrity are equaled only by her commitment and dedication to philanthropy and selflessly helping those in need — has been elected the 2011 Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year. Calle 13 Scores 10 Latin Grammy Nominations

Calle 13 scored a record 10 Latin Grammy nominations this Wednesday, including Record and Album of the year. Other top nominees were Franco de Vita with five, Marco Antonio Solís with four and Shakira with three.

The 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards will be airing live from Sin City on November 10, 2011. The event will be held at the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay Events Center and will be broadcasted on Univision, from 8pm to 11 pm, for the rest of the world to watch.

The Latin Grammys recognize the best of the best in Latin music and have been watched by not just Spanish speakers, but viewers form all over the world.

Nominees for this year's awards were announced at a press conference today from the Avalon in Hollywood, California. A live broadcast could be found on the official Latin Grammy website.

Shakira, Jennifer Lopez & Selena Gomez Are Among Latinos Using Social Media to Fight Hunger

Some of the biggest Latino names in the world – Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, among others – are using their social media influence to try to end hunger in East Africa.

The Hollywood Reporter says that each of the 150 celebs will highlight the campaign on their Twitter and Facebook accounts on Tuesday in the hopes of raising awareness and "a global audience of 700 million."    

The project’s main partner is "Save the Children." It will also feature Bob Marley’s 1973 tune “High Tide or Low Tide” as the theme song.

Other stars participating in the effort are Tego Calderón, Taio Cruz, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Britney Spears.

Poll: Shakira, Pique voted Spain's most nauseating couple

You have to love the age-old journalism tactic of listing: 5 Things to Wear at a Concert; Top 10 Reasons to Wear a Bikini; 8 Reasons to Honeymoon in Vegas. ... But did you ever want to know who might have the dubious distinction of being called Most Nauseating?

It's likely no one wants to make that list, but a pair that features regularly in our blogosphere has "earned" that distinction -- and not by us.

In a poll conducted by Spanish news agency EFE, Colombian pop diva Shakira and her Spanish soccer player boyfriend Gerard Piqué win the unflattering moniker for their very public relationship, in all its incarnations.

Written about almost constantly since their relationship was even made public, Shakira and Pique's romance has been well-documented, even going as far as talking about -- and clothed images and video of -- Pique's erection at an airport before his girlfriend was set to arrive.

Then there was a trip to Israel, in which both were photographed while she was at a humanitarian conference...sightings in restaurants, at which a media frenzy occurred, and a hefty price tag set, for the first photo exclusive of the pair together. It has seemed that at times the couple have even toyed with the media, as they play peekaboo behind closed doors, where no one but them has access to fans.

Yes, the pair dominated poll results, with an estimated 73 percent of respondents choosing the couple at the most likely to make you hurl. And why has the public soured?

The overflow of photographs posted on their Twitter and Facebook pages was one indication. Apart from posing nude or leg-locked in steamy sex, we've seen the couple in every position, so to speak. Almost predictable and incessant public displays of affection also assured the couple a very comfortable lead over the other finalists.

Bringing up the very bottom of the top 3 list of noxious Spaniard pairs was Spanish goalie Iker Casillas and sports presenter Sara Carbonero at 11 percent, and Academy Award-winning duo Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem with 4.9 percent.

Perhaps not all of us like to see a happy couple, at least not so often.

Our obsession with Latino celebrities

It’s true. Latinos have an obsession with celebrities. And not just any celebrity, but our own. For some odd reason, whenever we see Dra. Ana Maria Polo, Jennifer Lopez or Sofia Vergara in person, we just find a cultural connection and immediately go into “OMG” mode. Why is it so? Just like anything else in our cultural lives, because they are Latino in the U.S. with successful careers, we seem to look at them with a more passionate view as appose to anything else.

Okay sure Justin Bieber is a good performer, but Jennifer Lopez seems to draw a bigger crowd. Not only did she make it “bigger” with the addition to American Idol, but it seems as though Puerto Ricans and other Latinos look at her as inspiration to make it big. With her debut in the movie Selena, it was there where we as Latinos looked at ourselves and said, “She did it. So can we.”

One of my favorite examples of obsession is with Dra. Ana Maria Polo. Out of all the people we look up to it seems as though women find her work the most inspirational. Is it because she helps solve casos de la vida real or because she is a breast cancer survivor? The more real life situations the celebrity has, the more connection we seem to get. I mean it’s not every day when she can talk about how her “people” inspires her right? Like she says, “Por que trabajamos más que nadie.”

It’s true that celebrities are looked at as icons in their own way, but you have to admit nothing is more exciting than meeting someone who has struggled just as you have. Remember that there’s a reason why our parents came to live in the U.S.; to give us an opportunity and it’s that orgullo that keeps us going. When we see an immigrant similar to ourselves make it in the U.S., we immediately draw a bigger connection than to someone who just raps about money.

Even sports cause a huge obsession. The U.S. is one of the few countries where soccer, or futbol, is underappreciated. It’s funny seeing Colombian, Brazilian or other Latin American country players play for MLS teams. We love to yell, hate and love our main players. If they don’t make it to the world cup, all hell breaks loose.

I must admit the only time I would go gaga for anyone would be Shakira. Yes she has good music, but she also cares about the children via her philanthropy Pies Descalzos. I mean really any endorsement involving children gets you extra browning points. So what’s the real difference between our obsession and other cultural obsessions? It will always be our commitment to community and family. We understand struggle, pain and sorrow and at the same time happiness. Our cultural roots to our homeland always brings a smile to our own faces.

There are exactly three types of Hollywood breakups: good, bad, and downright ugly! And the recent news of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's sudden breakup (which the singers have handled amicably!)—got us thinking about other high-profile breakups that took the world by surprise. To quote the ultimate relationship show, Sex and the City: "There really is no good way to break up with someone, is there?"

Why: The call's coming from inside the house! After Christina Aguilera filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman last year (citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split), Jordan refused to move out of their Beverly Hills mansion, even though it was owned by Christina. It took the stubborn Jordan about five months to pack his bags and during that time, Christina had to find someplace else to stay with their 2-year-old son, Max. Why: After Cuban actor, Eddie Cibrian and country singer, LeAnn Rimes were caught having an affair in March of 2009 (while they were both married to other people), Brandi Glanville, Cibrian's wife of eight years, began trashing her husband and Rimes in interviews with various tabloids. She made fun of Cibrian's unemployment status as an actor, and essentially called him a hypocrite to the press, telling People.com that he's "just somebody I don't know." She added: "You think you know one thing and you wake up and it's all been a lie." Glanville also issued a public warning to Rimes: “He’s a cheater, he’s going to cheat forever," she said.

Why: After 10 years together, Shakira and her boyfriend, Antonio de la Rua broke up in January of this year. The singer blogged about the breakup on her website. However, since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship," she wrote. Why: For their wedding on May 9, 2000, Marc Anthony surprised Dayanara Torres by chartering two private jets and taking her to Las Vegas for an impromptu midnight ceremony in front of 15 guests. Jennifer Lopez Has Signed To Return To American Idol For Another Season

Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have just confirmed that they’ll be reclaiming their coveted judging seats at the end of June.  Jennifer Lopez has been on the fence as to whether or not she’ll be returning to the next season of American Idol.   Rumor had it that the heavy firming schedule was hard on her family life.  Jennifer and her husband Marc Anthony have three year old twins Max and Emme and she wanted to spend more time with her family.  Shania Twain and Shakira were said to be in running to replace Jennifer.

It seems Jennifer has changed her mind and E! Online is reporting that Jennifer Lopez has decided to come back to American Idol.  They Confirm: “Lopez has also agreed to return an announcement could be coming any day now.”

How did you feel about the team dynamics/chemistry between the judges? Are you happy that you will see see all of them back again?  Meanwhile Jennifer and her mother will be at the BAFTA’s tonight watching the gala.  Duke of Cambridge Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Catherine are expected to attend tonight as well as many other celebs.

Shakira or Shania Twain to Possibly Replace Jennifer Lopez as ‘American Idol’ Judge

With only one season of ‘American Idol‘ under her belt, rumors have been circulating that judge Jennifer Lopez is already considering leaving the show. So, now the question on everybody’s mind is: If J. Lo leaves, who will be the sexy songstress to fill the seat between Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson? Some publications (PopEater, Examiner) are reporting that Shakira or Shania Twain are in talks to replace Mrs. Marc Anthony.

We think Shakira would be a great fit for the position, considering her international stardom and the amazing stage presence she exudes while performing. However, Twain would be a good pick too, since she has been in the music business nearly two decades now. She is also a successful crossover, with singles like ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ and ‘You’re Still the One’ appealing to country and pop fans alike.




We have one concern about these two candidates, and that is that both Shakira and Twain are extremely kind-hearted women; so like J. Lo, they may struggle while delivering negative critiques or sending contestants home.

Even though people are buzzing about her replacement, the truth is that Lopez hasn’t even confirmed her departure from ‘Idol.’ Despite this, she may have a hard time balancing her role as a judge on the show along with the other projects she is taking on. Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, are getting ready to kick off their own talent show, and she is also up for two film roles. Not to mention that she is also raising two children!

Exclusive: Revealing details on Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's new reality show

As you may have heard, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have created their own musical reality show, called 'Q' Viva: The Chosen'. The power couple will embark in the next couple of months through an extensive 21-country search for the next new talents in music, either it's singing, playing or dancing all over Latin America. For this special mission they are joined by 'American Idol's creator, Simon Fuller, and world-renowned director and choreographer, Jamie King.

King has an impressive resumé working with the brightest, most important names in the business. He's been behind unforgettable world tours for such artists as Madonna, Britney Spears, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Avril Lavigne, Ricky Martin and Rihanna, just to name a few. And now he's here to share with AOL Latino further details on what we can expect from 'Q' Viva':

How far are you into developing or filming 'Q' Viva'?
Right now we're really at the beginning stages, getting ready to embark in this journey, which is really in a way a discovery of Latin America and the 21 countries we're about to scout physically, ourselves, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. Our mission is to discover new, young talent. Actually, young is the not right word, it's about all ages. But if you are in one of the countries and you have someone that you think represents best your country, we want to know about it. We will follow the people in each country to find undiscovered talent. Also, since we're in the beginning stages, you can go to Youtube.com/QViva and upload videos. We're using the Internet as well, because Latin America, as you can imagine, is such a vast region to cover and we want to make sure we don't miss anything. So if you have a friend or someone you want to nominate in terms of creativity, either a best singer, poet, street performer, we will want to see it. We will be watching all those videos ourselves as well.

Have you been watching these videos from YouTube?
Yes! Right now, Jennifer, Marc and myself have been meticulously going through them because we want to make sure that nothing is overlooked. And for us, there's no age limit. We're looking for anything that represents a particular region. But I can't wait to go to each country and search for the talent. I'm so excited and I can't wait to see more.

What interested you the most about taking this job?
I would say it would start with my love of music, dance and culture, live shows. But also, I'm friends with Jennifer and Marc and our other partner, Simon Fuller. They are all great, amazing talents themselves and have created the most successful brands in the world, and that is completely inspiring. For us, it's all about finding the talent.

What makes it different from other shows like 'American Idol'?
Unlike any other show that you have out there, unlike 'Idol' or 'America's Got Talent', we are the talent scouts. We are physically going into these countries not only to find talent but to simultaneously learn about each country and its culture, its similarities and differences with other countries. What makes them unique, what is their voice and the essence of each of the countries. There has never been a show that has really celebrated Latin America this way: the beauty, the splendor, the complexity and all the color that make up Latin America. Our intention is to show that to the rest of the world.

What is it about Latino culture that you find most appealing?
I don't know about you, but I have a background in dance and I LOVE when a good drum song comes on, with the rhythm in the music and also, the fire of the people, their sexiness. The communal kind of love that unites them is so inspiring and I want to learn more about that. I'm not Latin, I'm American, so I'm very much learning as I go in this process. I'm looking to find undiscovered talent but I'm also learning so much about the cultures myself. So the audience watching us will be learning through me, the American who doesn't speak Spanish. I'm looking forward to learning more as I go apart from the things I know and that I have learned from directing shows for Ricky Martin, Shakira, Thalía and Paulina Rubio.


How was it working with them?
For me there's no greater experience every time I have had the privilege to work with a Latin artist. And I've gotta say, I've worked with many, many artists, but each one of them, Ricky, Shakira, Paulina, Thalía, they have a particular fire, soul and energy that comes with the job that I find so inspiring. I must admit all of them have been one of the greatest experiences in my career.

Do you have any specific dates when you're coming down to each country?
Not right now, but we will embark on this journey very soon. You will definitely know when huge stars like Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez land in your city (laughs). So I'm definitely looking forward to that happening very soon.

Is Shakira preggers?

Could it be true? Shakira, who's been seen visiting cloud 9 with sweetheart Gerard Pique is preggers? So says the rumor mill.

The savory tidbit is growing faster than a schoolboy hitting puberty after the singer canceled several dates in Spain. Shakira's representatives claim it's for lack of security at the concert venues, but various channels have stipulated that the singer might be pregnant.

The story is gaining credibility after Shakira held a news conference in Germany for her Barefeet Foundation, at which reporters asked the singer about the alleged pregnancy. Shakira is said to have smiled while Pique looked up at her in complicity.

To that we also add that at a recent show in Switzerland, to which the singer showed up a half hour late and whose performance left much to be desired, she was apparently lip-syncing through some of the songs. Shakira reportedly let down fans after she wrapped the show just an hour after it began, midway through her song 'Waka Waka,' which drew boos of disapproval from the crowd.

Could it be that maybe she was nauseous and dizzy during the show?

The couple has been known to pull fast ones on the media, but could this be one big hoax?

Is Marriage Dead? These Latina Celebs Seem To Think So!

With the string of horrible stories that have come out over the last few weeks (Weinergate, The Love Governator, etc.), we can't blame anyone who is leery of the institution of marriage. But there seems to be a shift in society in general when it comes to thoughts about marriage and monogamy and whether or not these things are really necessary in modern times. As a matter of fact, for the first time ever, non-married people outnumbered married couples in the 2010 census count. Clearly there is a groundswell of anti-marriage momentum happening in the United States.

Marriage also seems to be less and less important for some Latinas, including these celebs, who either straight out reject the notion of being with someone for the rest of your life altogether, or have found domestic bliss in other forms.
