Obama Kicks Off Big Festivities For Hispanic Heritage Month

In case you haven't noticed, President Barack Obama has put a much stronger emphasis on acknowledging Hispanics these days. Is it because he feels more drawn to the Latino struggle? Or is it because he wants some votes in the next election? That remains to be seen. But what is worth noting is the White House's big plans for Hispanic Heritage Month.

The President and First Lady kicked off HHM with an appearance at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Awards. Better known as the CHCI's, the gala brought out Tr3s faves like Luis Enrique and even Prince Royce (who sang the national anthem). Notable honorees of the night included civil rights leader Orson Aguilar and Chris Weitz, who directed the critically-acclaimed A Better Life.

At the reception, Obama made a impassioned speech to the 3,000 CHCI guests, emphasizing job creation and the national DREAM Act. The DREAM, if passed, would give undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship via college or the military.

"I will do everything in my power to make the DREAM Act a reality," Obama said. "The truth is reforming our immigration system is central to repairing our economy."

And, per a recent White House press release, the HHM acknowledgements do not end there. Prominent Latino members of the Obama administration will be writing posts on the White House blog and video interviews with community leaders will be available on the President's website.

Additionally, FEMA will conduct a "Hispanic Heritage Month Preparedness Summit" on Thursday, followed by a special message from First Lady Michelle Obama at the evening's HHM Awards. Later in the month, the Oval Office will hold a special screening of the documentary Citizen USA, which profiles modern-day immigrant issues in America.

When summing up Hispanic Heritage Month, the White House website made a point to include a snippet of Obama's famous interview with Jorge Ramos where he said,

"Hispanics constitute the country's largest and fastest growing minority group. They have had a profound and positive impact on our country through, among other things, their community's strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. Our country was built on and continues to thrive on its diversity, and there is no doubt that the future of the United States is inextricably linked to the future of the Hispanic community."

Prince Royce Making 1st Disc in English

Miami –  Singer Prince Royce is seeking to broaden his fan base with his first disc in English, which he is recording simultaneously with his second disc in Spanish.

"We're starting two careers at the same time. A lot of people know me for my 'Spanglish,' and now we're going to take it to another level and try to bring bachata to Americans," George Royce Rojas told Efe in a telephone interview.

The New York native said his first English-language production is possible thanks to the contract he signed with Atlantic Records.

He revealed that the disc, which is expected to go on sale in late 2011, will sound like pop with "a little bit of Latino," and its top-flight producers have worked with such headliners as Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Chris Brown.

Prince Royce won fame in English-language radio last year with his bilingual bachata version of the Ben E. King classic "Stand by Me."

That number was on his self-titled debut album, which was certified double-platinum and earned him a Latin Grammy nomination.

Royce, together with the acclaimed producer Sergio George, gives bachata a new twist with the addition of strings and elements of other styles, such as R&B.

For his second disc in Spanish under the Top Stop Music label, Royce is back with George and said that it won't change his sound much because their brand of "romanticism has worked out very well for me."

Prince Royce plans to sing with reggaeton star Daddy Yankee at the July 21 Premios Juventud awards gala in Miami.

Royce has eight nominations for Premios Juventud awards.

Pitbull Makes Cover of Billboard Magazine

Latin hip-hop star Pitbull has been all over the place lately, including touring with fellow hit makers Prince Royce and Enrique Iglesias. Therefore, we weren’t surprised to find out that he’s gracing the cover of Billboard. In the new issue, he talks about his new album, Planet Pit. Lucky for you, we have some quotes from the article.

Courtesy of Billboard Magazine.

"You have to be constantly outdoing yourself," Pitbull says via the phone from Paris, where he's knee-deep in a round of promotion for his new album, "Planet Pit," due June 21 from Mr. 305/Polo Grounds/J. Following the City of Light, he was off to Germany and the Netherlands. "That's what [Jobs] knew: He had the Mac, but then he did the iPod, then the iPhone and then the iPad. There's always room for improvement."

The musical goal for "Planet Pit," Pitbull says, was "to create an album where every record on it could be a single -- where every record you go to, you're just like, 'Wow.' " His test for the "wow" factor is simple: "I just ask myself, 'If I were in a club or an arena or a stadium, would this make me go crazy?'" Pitbull credits a childhood spent listening to all kinds of music -- "merengue, freestyle, cha-cha, [Miami] bass, hip-hop, dancehall" -- with giving him the ability to "watch from a bird's-eye view. And that's what allows me to create music that crosses all genres," he says.

Although the considerable heavy-hitter quotient suggests a strategic A&R approach, Pitbull insists that the various collaborations on "Planet Pit" grew out of personal connections. "They all fell into place on their own," he says. "We'd hang out for a couple of nights, then it'd be like, 'Fuck it -- let's make a record together.' "

A self -described entrepreneur who says he envisions music paving the way toward his own marketing firm, Pitbull measures success the way multinational corporations do -- which comes as no surprise, given the wide-ranging business he does with blue chip brands like Kodak, Bud Light and Dr Pepper. "I make music with no boundaries," he says. "There's no specific class or people or culture I'm trying to target. And every time I reach a new audience, that means I'm doing something right.

Whoever hits up Pitbull in the near future can expect an experience that might be more intimate than the norm. "Before I enter any kind of deal with anyone, we'll have dinner numerous times just so they can see what kind of person I am," he says with a raspy chuckle. "It might be the most appealing part of doing business with the Pitbull brand."

Enrique Iglesias Announces Tour with Pitbull & Prince Royce!

Holy trio of hotness! Enrique Iglesias announced his Fall tour yesterday and as if the sultry Spanish singer wasn't enough to make most chicas go crazy, Mr. Worldwide himself (our Hot Guys issue cover model), Pitbull, and up-and-coming bachata sensation Prince Royce will be joining him. We can already hear the high voltage screams of teen girls all over the country!

Sure, we were sort of bummed when Iglesias pulled out of Britney Spears world tour, but we can't say we're disappointed by this lineup. The tour is scheduled to start on September 22 in Boston and end, appropriately enough, in Enrique and Pitbull's home town of Miami on October 22. There are 20 tour stops currently scheduled, but we have to say, we wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this tour gets extended, it's sure to sell out.

“I’m so excited to go out in the States, and this time with my good friends Pitbull and Prince Royce. It’s going to be a great show and we hope to see all of you out there. This tour will be unforgettable!” Iglesias said in a statement released to press.

Pitbull is also looking forward to the concert series: “Being on tour with Enrique Iglesias and Prince Royce proves that unity through music is still a driving force in our community. It will be a show full of energy and the fans will have a good time.”
Of course, the young Prince Royce is super excited to be in such good company, saying, “It is an honor to have been invited by Enrique to be part of this tour alongside him and Pitbull. This is what dreams are made of and I plan to enjoy every moment of it doing what I love most, performing for our fans.”

Men in Fashion at the 2011 Latin Billboard Music Awards!

The 2011 Latin Billboard Music Awards is not just a showcase of talents but of course a rendezvous of different fashion sense and style! Let’s take a look at these gorgeous men who made the red carpet  hotter than ever as they took a pose showing off their unique fashion style:

First off, we have Cristian Castro, a Grammy Award-nominated Mexican pop singer, and one of the night’s presenters. He looked fresh and formal in that black tuxedo with a black bow.

Dyland and Lenny, Puerto Rican reggaeton duo arrives at Bank United Center in Miami, Florida showing off their rugged-classy fashion taste with matching cool shades adding up to the over-all fashion alert drama. This duo is nominated for the Latin Rhythm Airplay Artist of the Year, Duo or Group category.

Vicente Garcia’s get-up for that night reflects his character as young bold and creative. Really cool!

It always pays to dress up clean, classy and polished just like Mauricio Henao- a Columbian Telenovelas actor who rocked a black fitted suit at the 2011 Latin Billboard Music Awards.

Prince Royce is indeed the prince of the night as he bagged home three notable awards: Latin Artist of the Year, New:  Tropical Airplay Artist of the Year, Solo: Tropical Albums Artist of the Year, Solo and two nominations for the Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male: Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Male:

Prince Royce is a singer-songwriter, musician and record producer from The Bronx, New York who just debuted his first single in 2010 but his songs remarkably made it to the top ten especially his hit singles "Stand by Me" and "Corazón Sin Cara".

During the award’s night, Prince donned a simple black suit with pinkish polo and a fitted trouser.  He’s indeed a simple man with surprisingly magnificent talent!

Marc Anthony is manly as ever in that all-black fitted suit-which is his distinct signature style! This best selling tropical salsa artist of all time never ages physically and musically, as his songs still top the Billboard list and was nominated this year for two categories: Latin Album of the Year: Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male. He also made the night especial as he performed his top hits for his fans!

Enrique Iglesias-the big winner of the night! He took home an impressive 9 awards out of 14 nominations! He triumphantly snatched the two prestigious awards of the night: Latin Artist of the Year and Latin Album of the Year. Other awards include: Hot Latin Song of the Year:  Enrique Iglesias Feat.
