Jennifer Lopez Wins 2011 American Music Award for Favorite Latin Music Artist

The quintuple threat Jennifer Lopez (actress/singer/dancer/designer/TV judge) upset two artists that she has collaborated with — Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull — when she won the 2011 American Music Award for Favorite Latin Music Artist.

“I didn’t expect to win, hold on,” Lopez said once she made it to the stage. But she wasn’t flustered. She’s J. Lo and she is always composed. La Lopez thanked God first and then went on to say, “It’s been an amazing year in so many ways. It’s been up and down, exciting and overwhelming, so many things.”

Like a return to superstardom via ‘American Idol’ and a subsequent divorce from Marc Anthony? It has been quite a roller coaster year for J. Lo, but she always handles herself with grace and class, doesn’t she? She always looks absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, too.

Lopez, wearing a one-sleeved, black lace dress with nude underlay and her hair slicked back into a tight bun, finished her speech, saying, “I want to thank my family most of all, my beautiful babies who inspire me to be a better person.”

Congrats on the big win, J. Lo

Christina Aguilera Signs Up For The Jennifer Lopez Comeback Plan

When Jennifer Lopez first signed up for “American Idol,” few thought it would serve as the career comeback vehicle that it has. But since Lopez enlisted to judge hopeful singers in the nation’s biggest karaoke contest, the ratings for the show have improved, and Lopez has landed several film roles and earned her first hit song in years with the Pittbull-assisted “On the Floor,” which peaked at an impressive No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Now it’s looking like another diva is about to follow in J. Lo’s footsteps. Rumors abound that Christina Aguilera, fresh off the surprise success of “The Voice,” is currently in the studio with producers William Orbit and Brendan O’Brien recording the follow-up to her 2010 misfire Bionic.

As with Lopez, many were surprised that Aguilera signed up to be a judge on “The Voice.” Few expected the NBC singing competition to become the hit that it did, and the pop star found herself suddenly back in the public’s good graces, which included joining fellow judge Adam Levine and his Maroon 5 bandmates on the top ten hit “Moves Like Jagger.” The song marked Aguilera’s first appearance in the Billboard top ten since 2006’s “Ain’t No Other Man.”

If she is in the studio with Orbit and O’Brien, it seems like a smart, Lopez-like move to strike while the iron is hot and reestablish herself as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that Aguilera was topping the charts with songs like “Beautiful,” winning Grammys and selling out arenas.

Working with Orbit and O’Brien could also serve as a move toward more adult material after Bionic’s failure to connect with younger audiences. It was Orbit, after all, who helped push Madonna into the second (or third or fourth, depending on how you look at it), more-adult phase of her career with Ray of Light, which won the Material Girl several Grammys. For his part, O’Brien is best known as a rock producer who has worked his magic on classic albums from Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Marc Anthony Is ‘Begging’ Jennifer Lopez To Take Him Back! Will She Do It?

Marc Anthony was reportedly controlling over Jennifer Lopez and jealous of her career, but now he wants her back in his life! He’s even trying to draw out the divorce!

Jennifer Lopez recently revealed that Marc Anthony wasn’t treating her right and said she loved herself enough to walk away from the situation. Multiple reports claim Marc was controlling and possessive over Jennifer, as well as being jealous of her career which re-launched with American Idol. Now, he seems to regret his actions and he’s reportedly begging for her to get back together!“[Marc's] mood shifts from blaming her to begging her to take him back to telling her she is destroying his life,” a source close to Jennifer revealed to Us Weekly.

And apparently, that’s not all. Marc is trying to draw the divorce out as long as possible so that he has more time to convince J. Lo it’s a bad idea! “He’s being difficult on every little point…He wants to prolong things so she reconsiders,” the insider said.

But, at least for now, Jennifer isn’t budging. Her friend tells Us she is “happy” and “surrounded by love” although she’s found it upsetting to deal with Marc and his mood swings.

If Jennifer is done with the marriage Marc should just let go, don’t you agree? Or should she try to make it work?

Shakira or Shania Twain to Possibly Replace Jennifer Lopez as ‘American Idol’ Judge

With only one season of ‘American Idol‘ under her belt, rumors have been circulating that judge Jennifer Lopez is already considering leaving the show. So, now the question on everybody’s mind is: If J. Lo leaves, who will be the sexy songstress to fill the seat between Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson? Some publications (PopEater, Examiner) are reporting that Shakira or Shania Twain are in talks to replace Mrs. Marc Anthony.

We think Shakira would be a great fit for the position, considering her international stardom and the amazing stage presence she exudes while performing. However, Twain would be a good pick too, since she has been in the music business nearly two decades now. She is also a successful crossover, with singles like ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ and ‘You’re Still the One’ appealing to country and pop fans alike.

We have one concern about these two candidates, and that is that both Shakira and Twain are extremely kind-hearted women; so like J. Lo, they may struggle while delivering negative critiques or sending contestants home.

Even though people are buzzing about her replacement, the truth is that Lopez hasn’t even confirmed her departure from ‘Idol.’ Despite this, she may have a hard time balancing her role as a judge on the show along with the other projects she is taking on. Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, are getting ready to kick off their own talent show, and she is also up for two film roles. Not to mention that she is also raising two children!

The Real Reason Jennifer Lopez Might Not Return to 'American Idol'

popnewswire

We have to admit, Jennifer Lopez's hesitation to return as a judge on the highest rated television show (American Idol) in the U.S. had us scratching our heads. The show helped to revitalize her career and revealed her sensitive and nurturing side. It was a win-win situation as American Idol's ratings had been sliding and completely bounced back this season thanks in no small part to La Lopez.

Casey Abrams Kisses J.Lo, but is La Lopez Kissing 'American Idol' Goodbye?

Lopez has always been a triple threat with her music, dancing and acting careers and for the last year and a half (well, at least since The Backup Plan) she's really only been working one angle of her many talents. Now we understand why she is hedging her bets.

EXCLUSIVE: Pitbull on Taking the 'American Idol' Stage With Jennifer Lopez: "Dale, Latinos!”

Lopez is in talks to star in not one, but two films slated for release in 2012. The first is the film adaptation for What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which is scheduled to begin shooting in four weeks. J. Lo would join an all-star cast for the comedy, including fellow Latina Cameron Diaz, Isla Fisher and Ed Helms.

The movie is loosely based on the best-selling book by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel and follows six fictional couples of all ages and backgrounds leading up to the big birthing day. The format is similar to films like He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day in that all the characters are somehow interconnected.

Is Jennifer Lopez Done with 'American Idol?'

In a huge departure from the romantic comedy genre for which Lopez has become known, Deadline.com is also reporting that she is in talks for the female lead in Parker, opposite Jason Statham. The action film, helmed by Taylor Hackford, is an adaptation of the Donald Westlake mystery novel series. Jenny would play a character named Leslie, who gets involved with the relentless and remorseless thief Parker as he executes a heist. The hope is that the movie would launch a trilogy—so Lopez could be be looking at a steady string of employment.

Now her reluctance to commit to another season of American Idol makes so much more sense. But tell us what you think!

American Idol: Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery in a Dead Heat Headed into Finale

When does a dream begin? And how will that dream end?

That was the opening line to American Idol Tuesday night, as final contestants Lauren Alaina, 16, and Scotty McCreery, 17, performed one last time before the grand finale Wednesday night.

The country singers, the youngest to ever make it to the final show, sang three songs each in an attempt to rally their supporters and woo any last swing voters their way. The drama started right out of the gate. Ryan Seacrest announced that Alaina was having trouble with her voice during rehearsal before the show.

That’s when they cued a doctor, who gave the 16-year-old the green light to perform and his prediction for a great performance.

“During the rehearsal, Lauren was really pushing her voice to get the maximum sound out. And during that she blew out one of her vocal chords,” the doctor said. “We gave her a lot of medicines…and she is going to be great.”

Vocal chord strain and all, Alaina impressed the judges throughout the night. But the high point for her was her last performance, when she sang “Like My Mother Does,” an original song she dedicated to her mother, which she will sing on Wednesday if she completes the dream and wins the competition.

During the song, Alaina walked toward her mother, held her hand and sang to her in a touching moment that stirred her parents to tears, and gave her the edge over Scotty in the eyes of the judges.

“This is a very tight race. But Lauren, with that song tonight you may have just won,” Jennifer López said. “You sang it beautifully. It was perfect for you. You sang it just the way you needed to.”

Steven Tyler concurred: “You are it, in my eyes.”

And Randy Jackson said her dream may become reality.

“It was exactly the summation of your journey. It was a great ode to your mother. It was the Lauren we fell in love with in Nashville," he said. "Lauren Alaina has arrived America…that was amazing, amazing.”

McCreery, for his part, began the night strong in his rendition of "Gone" by George Strait.

“I thought it was such an explosive start,” López said. “I couldn’t think of a better way to start the show then with 'Gone.' That was amazing.”

“Most important, though, they are both in it to win it,” Jackson shouted.

McCreery's night ended with the song, "I love You This Big," an originally written song that he will perform if he wins Wednesday night.

The performance was praised by the judges, but McCreery fell just short – at least in the eyes of the star-studded judges – of Alaina’s final act.

“You are our great story teller. You did a really amazing job with that song,” López said.

“Scotty, you are here, you are in it to win it. I am proud of you because you have grown so much since you’ve been here,” Jackson said.

“You nailed it again,” Tyler said.

American Idol - American Idol Stunned As Favourite Is Eliminated

American Idol contestant Pia Toscano was eliminated from the competition last night, despite being heavily tipped to become this year's American Idol champion, reports Abc News.

As host Ryan Seacrest announced Toscano's name, the 'Idol' audience shouted "no!" and the judges looked stunned. Steven Tyler told the American viewers that their "lack of passion was unforgivable" while Jennifer Lopez appeared to be on the verge of tears. The 41-year-old R&B star said that she was angry and speechless and Randy Jackson echoed the comments. Despite the furore, Toscano accepted the decision but became teary when talking about how her deceased grandfather had inspired her 'final song'. The 22-year-old proceeded to sing 'Stand By You' and received a stand ovation from the live studio audience. Before her departure, the New Yorker had been compared to the likes of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. She received unanimous praise for her rendition of Tina Turner's 'River Deep, Mountain High' on Tuesday's show and was assumed to be safe from elimination.

The shock elimination now leaves the door open for contestants such as Casey Abrams and Paul Mcdonald to take this year's American Idol crown.

Meet the 10 Latinos Who Have Rocked 'American Idol' Over the Years

With Jennifer Lopez set to debut as an American Idol judge tonight (Fox, 8 p.m. EST), we thought it would be fun to look back at the show’s prominent Latino contestants—from the fabulous to the bizarre. Enjoy!

pollpigeon.
David Archuleta, 20
Season: 7, runner up
Hometown: Murray, UT

Memorable for: Cuteness mixed with real power. A vocal prodigy as a child, the Honduran American singer became one of the show’s youngest contestants, and the most adorable, ever. Who can forget his last performance, where he nailed his three songs, including—hello unexpected maturity! —Elton John’s Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me? Everyone from Simon Cowell to co-finalist David Cook thought he’d won the whole shebang. But voters went with Cook.

Where he is now: After releasing a self-titled debut album that has sold 900,000 worldwide, Archuleta has not done as well with his second, The Other Side of Down, which sold just 63,000 in the U.S. Yikes. Can he make a comeback?

smh (dot)com(dot) au
David Hernandez, 27
Season: 7, 12th place
Hometown: Glendale, AZ

Memorable for: Sexy looks and song delivery. An early favorite, the Mexican American made it to the Top 12 before being the first to go. Some, like The View’s Elizabeth Hasselbeck, smelled a conspiracy, saying that Fox may have jettisoned him because of his past as a male stripper.

Where he is now: In Los Angeles, trying to establish a singing career.

Jason Castro, 23
Season: 7, fourth place
Hometown: Rockwall, TX

Memorable for: Those dreadlocks, piercing blue eyes and spacey-ness.

Where he is now: He released a self-titled debut album last spring, which despite OK reviews, sold poorly. At least the Colombian American singer has love: He recently married his high school sweetheart. They live in Dallas.
mtv (dot) com
Allison Iraheta, 18
Season: 8, fourth place
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Memorable for: A power-rock voice complemented by bright red hair. She channeled some of music’s heaviest-hitting female singers, from Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin, and wowed every time. Her departure shocked many.

Where she is now: The Salvadoran American rocker released an album, Just Like Me, in 2009. When it underperformed, her label, Jive dropped her. She is still signed to 19 Entertainment, along with many of the top AI also-rans.
 poptower
Jorge Nunez, 23
Season: 8, 13th place
Hometown: Carolina, Puerto Rico

Memorable for: Being from Puerto Rico, and having a voice good enough to be lauded by Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, who declared they wanted to sing with him.

Where he is now: Your guess is as good as his.

youtubequestions

Andrew Garcia, 25
Season: 9, ninth place
Hometown: Moreno Valley, CA

Memorable for: Tattoos, including one of his wife’s red lips, and for peaking way too early and struggling the rest of the way.

Where he is now: Working on an album.

crushable
Diana DeGarmo, 23
Season: 3, runner up
Hometown: Snellville, GA

Memorable for: Coming in second to Fantasia Barrino by only 2% of the votes. Talk about your slim margins.

Where she is now: Broadway, baby! Well, she was, until last summer, when Hair closed. Now she’s doing musical theater in her adopted hometown of Nashville.
american idol

Jessica Sierra, 25
Season: 4, tenth place
Hometown: Tampa, FL

Memorable for: Being a hot mess post-Idol. Sierra starred in a sex tape and was arrested after a bar fight. Then she was busted for cocaine possession and went into rehab for drugs and alcohol. Her struggles were featured on Celebrity Rehab. She also had a stalker.

Where she is now: Now clean and sober, prepping her comeback album and has a two-year-old daughter.

zimbio
Syesha Mercado, 24
Season: 7, third place
Hometown: Sarasota, FL

Memorable for: That goosebump-inducing moment when the half Puerto Rican diva sang Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing. We’re still reeling.

Where she is now: She was part of the cast of Dreamgirls national tour; she also attends college at Florida International University.
American idol
R.J. Helton, 29
Season: 1, fifth place
Hometown: Pasadena, CA

Memorable for: Being the Latino to get the farthest in the inaugural season of the show, and coming out as gay in 2006, leaving a Christian music career behind.

Where he is now: Working on music.
