Pop Star Shakira Buys Private Island

Shakira and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters have bought a Caribbean island together.

The Colombian singer – who is currently dating Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique – has joined forces with the musician to purchase the $16 million site of Bonds Cay, north of the Bahamas, in order to build a resort which will cater for millionaire holidaymakers.

Shakira, 34, and Roger, 68, are reportedly hoping to "reinvent the concept of tourism" by building both a set of luxury holiday homes which will also include private beaches and a number of hotels with plans to sell prime seaside property on the island.

Bonds Cay has five beaches and three bays, along with a number of waterfalls and Shakira and Roger have also made plans to build an artists' retreat which will house a series of artists-in-residence, galleries populated with up-and-comers' works and a programme offering semester-long sabbaticals.

Arturo Rubinstein, a Miami-based investor involved in the project, said: "It's not about having 200 speedboats and an 18-hole golf course. I would say it is an explosion of the senses. It's a concept more related to art and culture."

Shakira's former boyfriend Antonio De La Rua and New York City financial services firm Guggenheim Capital were also involved in the purchase when it was first proposed in 2006 but it is unclear if this is still the case.

John Christie, vice president of Caribbean real estate brokerage H.G. Christie told Bahamas4u.com: "It's a beautiful island. It's got some height to it, which means as you build up, you get better views. There is the ocean to the east of it so you've got reefs and views of turquoise water. On the other side of the island is limey, light turquoise water because it is shallow. It's a great fishing area."

Is Shakira preggers?

Could it be true? Shakira, who's been seen visiting cloud 9 with sweetheart Gerard Pique is preggers? So says the rumor mill.

The savory tidbit is growing faster than a schoolboy hitting puberty after the singer canceled several dates in Spain. Shakira's representatives claim it's for lack of security at the concert venues, but various channels have stipulated that the singer might be pregnant.

The story is gaining credibility after Shakira held a news conference in Germany for her Barefeet Foundation, at which reporters asked the singer about the alleged pregnancy. Shakira is said to have smiled while Pique looked up at her in complicity.

To that we also add that at a recent show in Switzerland, to which the singer showed up a half hour late and whose performance left much to be desired, she was apparently lip-syncing through some of the songs. Shakira reportedly let down fans after she wrapped the show just an hour after it began, midway through her song 'Waka Waka,' which drew boos of disapproval from the crowd.

Could it be that maybe she was nauseous and dizzy during the show?

The couple has been known to pull fast ones on the media, but could this be one big hoax?

Shakira Goes House Hunting with Pique

One week after she changed the lyrics to her song "Hips Don't Lie" to include her soccer star boyfriend Gerard Pique, rumor has it that Shakira and the FC Barcelona star are looking to buy a home together in Spain, where Shaki plans to settle down permanently. The couple was recently spotted on a trip to Málaga checking out a 2 million dollar beach home in the tony section of town where superstars like Antonio Banderas already own homes.

All this talk of cohabitation has tongues wagging at how fast (and public) the two have been with their relationship. Shaki was with Antonio de la Rua for 10-plus years and was never photographed being so openly affectionate. So is marriage a real possibility for the duo, despite the ten year age difference?
Not if you go buy Shaki's view of the institution: "The idea of wearing a white dress is very romantic, but the real point of marriage is a contract and that is not romantic to me," she admits. "I also didn't want to be under constant pressure to name a day. Then, after the marriage, the only thing people want to know is when the divorce will be."

Well, she sort of has a point. We're just happy she seems so happy!
