ALMA Awards 2011: Christina Aguilera & Selena Gomez Leads

z are the leading nominees for the 2011 ALMA Awards; honor the artistic activities of Latinos in film, music and television.


The pop singer Christina Aguilera and Disney actress/singer Selena Gomez are each up for three awards for their effort in music and on the small and big screens.

For the first time, followers are being asked to help choose the winners by voting online. Winners will be out by fan votes; Nielsen and Billboard rankings, box-office, and the ALMA Awards production team.

The ALMA Awards, hosted by Eva Longoria and George Lopez, will be presented Sept. 16 on NBC. The 2011 ALMA Awards nominees include as follows:

Jessica Alba – Machete

Penelope Cruz – Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Rosario Dawson – Unstoppable

Zoë Saldana – Takers

Michelle Rodriguez – Battle: Los Angeles

Favorite Movie Actress – Musical/Comedy:

Christina Aguilera – Burlesque

Eva Mendes – The Other Guys

Cameron Diaz – Bad Teacher

Selena Gomez – Monte Carlo

Alexa Vega – From Prada to Nada

Nominees for Favorite Male Music Artist: Taio Cruz, Enrique Iglesias, Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin and Pitbull.

Nominees for Favorite Female Music Artist: Christina Aguilera, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Naya Rivera and Shakira.

The actors nominated for TV shows include Selena Gomez for her character on the Disney channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, Sofía Vergara in Modern Family and Naya Rivera on Glee.

Also, Favorite TV Reality, judge on the singing contest The Voice, Variety or Comedy Personality or Act nominees include Christina Aguilera and George Lopez for his late night talk show, Lopez Tonight – as well as Jennifer Lopez, a judge on American Idol, Mario Lopez for Mario Lopez: Saved by the Baby and Cesar Millan of Dog Whisperer on the Animal Planet channel.
