Wisin y Yandel were the big winners of the Best Latino Artist award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMA)! The Puerto Rican reggaeton duo, who have more than 15 platinum albums in the U.S. and even more across Latin America, will accept their award during the network’s Spanish-subtitled transmission of the 2011 VMAs next Monday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. ET.
Competition was extremely fierce and the winner was determined by online voting. Wisin y Yandel ended up triumphing over competitors, which included fellow reggaeton artist Don Omar, Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias ( with whom they collaborated), iconic Mexican rock group Maná, and bachata newcomer Prince Royce.
“It is a privilege to be nominated for this ‘Best Latino Artist’ award and an honor to receive this award, voted by the fans,” said the duo. “This award is proof that hard work and perseverance can lead you to your goals. Thank you to the fans and Tr3 for their continued support.” The award-winning pair, who first joined forces in 1998, hasn’t stopped producing bass-thumping music for the last 12 years.
Congrats to Wisin y Yandel on their latest accolade and here's to many more!
