Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon Debut Twins On '20/20'

They're finally here!

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon debuted their six-month-old twins, Morrocan and Monroe, on ABC's "20/20" Friday night, and talked about struggling with a miscarriage and dealing with an extremely tough pregnancy.

Carey and Cannon married in 2008, after only a few weeks of dating, and the singer became pregnant shortly thereafter. However, things didn't go as planned.

"It was really tough," Carey said of having a miscarriage, adding that the couple then decided to try fertility treatments, in addition to adopting a more zen-like lifestyle, in order to conceive.

When they found out they were expecting twins, they were thrilled, but the pregnancy did take its toll on Carey.

"I don't think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body ... Carrying two babies? Unless somebody's been through it, it's difficult to understand that I went through," she said.

Bed rest, false labor and many emergency trips to the hospital dominated a large portion of her pregnancy, and Carey admits that by the end, she had to have help to just get out of bed and use the restroom.

By April 30, her doctor, concerned for the health of mom and babies, delivered the twins via C-section as Carey's live version of her hit song, "Fantasy," played in the background, with dad Nick playing DJ.

"The only reason I wanted the live version was so they could hear the applause upon entering the world," Carey said.

The singer and radio host have been leading up to the big premiere all week, first announcing the ABC special on their website, and launching an official site for Roc and Roe, lovingly called DemBabies.


"Morrocan has several nicknames, one of them is RocStar (Roc*) and you'll see why in a few of the pictures!" the couple shares on the site. "Although it's a bit early, the camera seems to love Ms. Monroe and vice versa. To us it's amazing to see their personalities shine through. They're such beautiful people already."

Mariah and Nick Welcomes Twins on their 3rd Wedding Anniversary!

April 30 is a significant date for the soul diva Mariah Carey and Hip-hop singer Nick Cannon as they welcomed their adorable baby twins exactly on their 3rd wedding anniversary day!

Truly blessed indeed! The couple were overjoyed with this dual celebration that happened in their life as new mommy and daddy.

According to reports the fraternal twins have not yet been named , but what is known is that their eldest is a baby girl. The baby girl was born first weighing five pounds, three ounces (2.35 kilograms, followed by the boy with five pounds six ounces (2.44 kilograms) weight.

Her representative, Cindi Berger, confirmed the report that the songtress gave birth on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at exactly 12:07 p.m. EDT at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles.

Just like a newbie father, reports said that Nick was very nervous when Mariah had her contractions and was rushed to the hospital and drove Mariah in their Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Their fraternal twins were truly God given gifts to this couple after Mariah had a miscarriage shortly after they got married in 2007.

Now let’s take a look back on their luxurious preparations for the arrival of their twins!

The controversial Magazine Covers:

First it was only the full pregnant Mariah who posed for the cover of Life & Style Magazine for April 2011 issue; next she is with her Husband Nick on the cover of Britain’s Ok magazine:

The said photo shoots as per the couple is all about the preparations of having twins and a celebration of being a soon to be father and mother. Although the shots were artistically done, there were also negative comments that bombarded the couples:

Mariah said, “I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience. My ultimate goal was to share this incredibly personal moment with my true fans.”.

“The babies were kicking almost the entire time; it was unbelievable. Especially the girl – clearly she’s a diva in training!… Now I have so much respect for mothers everywhere, especially those who’ve had difficult pregnancies or given birth to multiples. We need to have Mother’s Day once a week!” she added.

Nick was really in favor of this idea and was very proud to be a father of Mariah’s children: I thought I couldn’t love Mariah more. But I have a whole new appreciation and admiration for her,” Nick said.

The “beautiful, tranquil, cozy environment for the twins”! the couple made two nurseries; one at their luxe Bel-Air, Calif., estate and the other at their NYC apartment. The million dollar worth nursery room’s motif is pink for the baby girl and moss green for the baby boy. 

“The ceiling has orangey-pink clouds in a blue sky with golden stars twinkling. It's based on two songs I wrote that are fan favorites: 'Underneath the Stars' and 'Close My Eyes.' Sometimes I just sit in the nursery and stare at the ceiling because I love it so much”, said proudly by Mariah.

Mariah Carey has posed for her fair share of portraits. But none has been as personal or emotional as the singing legend unveiling her baby bump - days away from giving birth to twins.

Eight months pregnant Mariah, 42, proudly showed off the bump in time-honoured celebrity fashion - in an exclusive cover shoot with a magazine.

Bronzed, radiant, with her hair tumbling softly about her shoulders, the chart-topping singer looked relaxed as she awaits the arrival of her first children, a boy and a girl.

Carey joins a number of pregnant stars who have posed nude while heavily pregnant. Demi Moore famously appeared naked on the cover of Vanity Fair in August 1991 while seven months pregnant with daughter Scout LaRue.

Many have copied that pose, including Christina Aguilera, who was pictured pregnant with son Max on the January 2008 cover of Marie Claire.

Carey's twins - a boy and a girl - were clearly ready for their close-ups. She said: 'The babies were kicking almost the entire time; it was unbelievable.

'Especially the girl - clearly she’s a diva in training. We didn’t start shooting until 1:30am because I was in the hospital from the night before until the day of the shoot with contractions five minutes apart!'

Clearly, although Carey isn't due to give birth for a few weeks, the twins could be making their entrance sooner rather than later.

The We Belong together singer suffered a scare when she was admitted to hospital last month with early contractions. But for now, she and her husband Nick Cannon are enjoying their last few days as a household of two.

Cannon said he has never been more attracted to his wife. 'I thought I couldn’t love Mariah more,” he tells Life & Style.

'But I have a whole new appreciation and admiration for her.'
