What You Need To Know About Salsa Dancing

The history of salsa dancing traces its roots to Spanish speaking colonies in the Caribbean but proving its exact starting point cannot be done. It is a lively fusion of music, tones, and beats from Africa and Europe.

As history recounts, the salsa dance was brought to us by Cuban or Puerto Rican immigrants, but no one really knows how it became so popular so quickly. The important thing, though, is that it is created by the Spanish speaking people of the Caribbean and that it is a lively fusion of beats and music from the Latin culture.

And although the exact history of the salsa’s origin is unconfirmed, this uncertainty gives the dance a whole new depth that makes it even more colorful and vibrant. Without the need of being true to its roots, it has already branched into so many different styles, allowing people to learn how to dance it freely and without any inhibitions, giving salsa its popularity and making it a wonderful and exciting thing to learn.

Salsa is a complex dance. The fact that it is a mixture of many different cultures spiced up with the fusion of African and European beats, there is no doubt that salsa dancing is a complex activity that challenges people. It is easy and hard at the same time, requiring you to give your best as it is, and, by all means, a dance that tickles the senses. So, if a dancer wouldn’t give his or her one hundred percent with the salsa dance, it completely takes the fun and beauty out of the equation.

Learning to dance the salsa and you’ve got something to replace gym workouts. Instead of sweating yourself out on a gym by running on treads or lifting weights where no result, aside from sweating, can be easily seen, why won’t you just learn dance the salsa instead? Engaging yourself in an activity like this can easily help you in shedding some pounds off, plus, you can also be hitting two birds with one stone as you are learning a new skill as well. With salsa dancing, you can already be multi-tasking even without you knowing it.

Confidence is also a big factor in salsa. However, if one is unsure whether one can perform the dance in front of an audience, practice can become the best tool. Whenever possible an unsure salsa dance student should practice in groups, the larger the better, in order to accustom the student to dancing while other people are present in the room. With enough practice, salsa dancing can build the confidence needed not only in dance, but also in life.

Never be afraid to move your hips. Again, salsa dance involves sexy movements, meaning you really need to move those hips in order to do the dance.

As for the attire, light fabrics are always the best choice as it can get pretty lively while salsa dancing. Also, if you are looking for a salsa dress, make sure that you can easily move and is very comfortable. Learning how to dance salsa is really rewarding and highly beneficial. You can meet new people, get a good exercise, create a new passion, become more confident and of course, have a lot of fun. Why don’t you start taking classes today? You’ll never know, this might just be your new passion!

Dance is a great way to stay fit

Gone are the days when dancing was pursued only as a hobby or a childhood passion.

We all know how people today have made dancing a way of life because it comes with its own health benefits and it is an excellent way to remain fit! Today, people are taking up different forms of dancing as an interesting form of exercise. It is looked upon as a more exciting option than going to a gym.

"Dance does not follow a fixed pattern like exercise," says Akash Karnatki, owner of a famous dance academy. "It has a different routine every day. Every form of dance comes with its own set of benefits. Hip Hop is a very good cardio workout as it involves a lot of up and down body movements which need a lot of strength. Salsa is great for the upper body and it helps improve flexibility. B-Boying is best for building muscles as the moves are very athletic. Three minutes of dancing is as good as sprinting if you look at it in terms of calories lost."

Dancing also works wonders for people who have to follow fixed routine schedules. Saket Tibrewal, a young professional who enjoys doing Salsa, Tango, Samba, has been dancing for the last three years and finds dancing to be very refreshing. He says, "I go to my dance classes two days a week. Those two days are the refreshing days in the entire week. I suffered from backaches earlier, but ever since I started dancing, the backaches have gone. I can even walk long distances at a stretch without getting tired. Most importantly, dance works as a stress buster."

Dance is suitable for people of all ages to remain in perfect shape and size. Meeta Shah, a graphic designer, 40, has been regularly going to dance classes with her husband and son for the last seven years. She says, "Going to the gym or for morning walks is very boring.

Dance, apart from keeping me fit, helps me look much younger. It is a great way to socialize and meet new people. Even at my age, I can do Hip Hop with my son, isn't that great?" Classical dancing also comes with its health benefits. Vanita Nagarajan, teacher at a renowned dance academy says, "The different postures of Bharatnatyam, if done correctly, largely benefit the digestive system and one never faces any spinal problem. It helps pregnant women have a smooth delivery." Mahima Pandya, who has been practising Kathak for the last 11 years, says, "It really helps in toning the body and increase stamina.

It requires perfect mind and body synchronization, thus making it as good as any other exercise." "It is as good as yoga and increases concentration levels," adds Vanita. Akash also agrees with her and says, "Dancing requires concentration which helps the mind." No wonder then, dancing is the newest best way to reduce the monotony of gym workouts and remain in the pink of health.

'My girlfriend gave me the silent treatment after raunchy tango with Aliona,' reveals Strictly's Harry Judd

Harry Judd may have it all; the money, the looks, the fame.

But it seems he doesn't have a happy girlfriend.

The Strictly Come Dancing star has revealed his other half Izzy Johnston was so infuriated watching his raunchy tango with professional partner Aliona Vilani, that she gave him the silent treatment for an evening.

The McFly drummer, 25, invited Izzy to rehearsals, but was left regretting his decision when she 'freaked out'.

But Izzy, the violinist from Britain's Got Talent band Escala, was overwhelmed with seeing her beau behave flirtatiously with another girl.

Harry told Now: 'On the ride home Izzy was really quiet. At that moment it’d really hit her that this was her man with another girl.

'She was freaked out a bit. She said, "Just don’t talk to me now - speak to me in the morning."'

But despite taking a brief hiatus from each other for six months previously, the couple are stronger than ever and live together.

Reflecting on their time apart, Harry said: 'She needed time away from me because I’m a pain in the a**e. Thankfully, it has all worked out.

'We needed to be apart. We’d been together for five years and we’d been inseparable.

'It was never going to last like that. I wanted to go on lads’ holidays and golf trips and out with just the boys.

'That was a huge problem in our relationship. So I was able to go out and let my hair down. We got our independence back.'

Gushing about his missus, Harry added: 'I don’t know why but we are chemically connected. Our eyes met and we knew. It was amazing.'

'[Strictly] is intimate but I wouldn’t have bought a house and moved in with my girlfriend if I didn’t think she was the only one for me.'

Harry and Aliona were third on the leader board last Saturday, scoring 33 out of a possible 40.

They were pipped to the post only by Holly Valance and Artem Chigvintsev, who triumphed with 34, and Chelsee Healy and Pasha Kovalev, shooting to the winner's position with 36.

It was Lulu that waved goodbye, as her and partner Brendan Cole were eliminated in the bottom two against Audley Harrison and Natalie Lowe.

Right here the blend of African, Indian, Spanish and Eastern European cultures joined together to produce a wildly emotional dance. The term ‘tango’ is believed to come from an African drum defeat ‘tan-go.

Along with the dance tells the story of sensually charged feelings amongst gentleman and woman. While it has a lot of similarities to other ballroom dances, the specific movements from the tango are diverse. There are a number of the flowing movements, when both dancers adhere to each other’s movement, but you can find also quick jerky head changes from side to side as if your dancers are slapping each and every other with stiff upper bodies. Upper entire body movements are structured and refined with pointing fingers and stiff heads. Most of the time the upper entire body does not move whilst the legs carry out a frenetic routine of their own. Then the upper human body gets to be fluid, each dancers entwine as the male and female components engage in their own conversation. The modern tango danced right now is actually a significantly sanitized model with the original. Considerably of the original, passionate emotion which initial stuffed the dance was lost. You will find no longer the lust-filled gazes and females draped provocatively across the men.

Many of its adherents experiencing the pulsing rhythm and variation in speed.Male and lady partners function around the dance floor inside a typically counterclockwise way.Very first the guy is dominant and demanding and then the lady is persuading and cajoling.Feet are kicked out towards the sides because the two folks argue in their dance. Then make up, only to argue as soon as much more. This represents the additional argumentative segments from the dance as the two protagonists continually clash after which ingratiate by themselves to each other. They work the floor within the identical counter clockwise way as other standard dances and forward and backward feet types will be the identical.Modern day clothing are really similar to other sorts of ballroom with plenty of sequins and reduce away dresses. They are able to be 1 piece outfits with only slight glints of sequins at cuffs, or down the sides.

The dresses are incredibly fitted with cut-away sections as well as the skirts could be short and lower away. They’re tight-fitting and in dark colours either reds or greens. The dresses are provocative and is often reduce away with slashed skirts to exhibit off the kicks and leg turns. Learning tango dance steps is often a pretty intense, emotional encounter. The Dancing With the Stars committee has been meeting regularly since April, planning the next Richmond County Hospice fund raising extravaganza.

“Last year’s Dancing With the Stars was such an overwhelming success, we’re very excited about doing it again this year,” said Lisa Ledford, Richmond County Hospice Business Development Coordinator.

$15,000 was raised last year, and event organizers are hoping for another huge hit.

“All the money raised goes to patients and families being served by Richmond County Hospice,” said Ledford. “We are the only local, non-profit Hospice in the county.”

The committee is lining up “A Taste of Richmond,” spreads from several restaurants, to be served at the event. A wine tasting is also a possibility.

Tickets to attend the event are $60 per couple, or $35 for single tickets.

“We had a pretty packed house last year,” said Ledford. “People had so much fun they were asking us when the next one would be, as they were on their way out the door.”

This year’s event will be held on November 5, at Cole Auditorium.

There is no entree fee for dancers, but each team pledges to raise funds from sponsors.

Last years winners were Kimberly Harrington and Bruce Stanback, who did the Salsa to Pitbull’s song, “I Know You Want Me.”

“We had a fantastic time,” said Harrington. “I’m a big fan of the TV show, ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ so when I was approached to participate, I didn’t think twice. Bruce and I had one professional Salsa lesson and then created our own routine. It was thrilling to win the disco ball trophy, especially since it was for a good cause. My first experience with Hospice was with my stepfather in 1995. The concept of Hospice was new to us, but my family grew to appreciate the nature of the agency and developed close ties to the staff that have lingered through the years.”

A few of the contestants confirmed for this year are: Dr. Fred McQueen, and Layla Mabe - who are signed up to Tango; John and Sharon Hutchinson; Amy Simmons; and Susan Sellers.

“There are several more on the list who aren’t confirmed yet,” said Ledford. “And we are still recruiting!”

Any style of ballroom dancing is permitted in the contest. This includes dances like: Tango; Waltz; Rumba; Samba; Mambo; Foxtrot; and Cha Cha.

“Sharon Nichols, with Liberty Place, offers dance lessons to couples who want to participate,” Ledford said.

For more information on the event, contact Lisa Ledford at 910-997-4464.

Bollywood grooves to salsa, latino beats

I wanna tell you ‘bout a dance that’s goin’ around, everybody’s doin’ it from the grownups down”. The famous Rolling Stones number holds good right now for Bollywood, which is completely smitten by salsa and tango.

Though Aisha was not a hit, it was a treat to watch Abhay Deol, Sonam Kapoor and Lisa Hayden in a salsa number in the romantic comedy.

Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan scorched the screen with their fast-paced sensuous salsa moves in Kites. In Guzaarish, Hrithik once again mesmerised with his adrenaline rushing performance, while Aishwarya Rai -Bachchan impressed with her flamenco moves.

“International dance formats have always been eye-catching and people make it a point to stop and watch them. With the repeated display of these techniques on the small screen through dance reality shows, the interest of the masses has grown in them,” said choreographer Sandip Soparrkar.

An expert in ballroom dance, Soparrkar was the man behind Hrithik-Kangana’s dream-like dance moves in Kites.

“People are surprised when they see Indians perform ballroom dancing. But Bollywood is becoming international. People need to know that our country is not just about buffaloes and snake charmers,” said the dancer who won the European Ballroom Champion for nine years with his partner Ewa Maria.
It’s true that the new lot of choreographers are not shying away from trying new dance forms in Hindi movies, but it was Shiamak Davar who introduced jazz-infused contemporary dance with the Shah Rukh Khan-Madhuri Dixit-Karishma Kapoor starrer Dil Toh Pagal Hai, telling the tale of a dance-drama troupe.
Soon after, these new forms replaced the jhatkas, matkas and pelvic thrusts. Beautifully choreographed jazz was hugely appreciated in Dhoom (2004), followed by the locking-and-popping in Lakshya (2004), contemporary in Naach (2004), salsa in Honeymoon Travels (2007), and Bollywood-style Broadway in Aaja Nachle (2007).

“While hip-hop has been making inroads into Hindi cinema for some time, other dance styles went unnoticed. Break dance got recognition because of pop legend Michael Jackson,” said choreographer duo Bosco-Cesar.

With films such as Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji, Saat Khoon Maaf and Patiala House, the trend will continue.
“I choreographed a sensuous tango piece for Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf. I also did a salsa number for Ajay Devgan in Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie, ‘Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji’,” said Soparrkar.

“Reality dance shows and choreographers like Terrence, Remo and Shiamak have educated the masses about the various dance formats through television.” said Bosco.
But, has it overshadowed the typical Bollywood dancing?

Sandeepa Dhar, a trained dancer and debutante actor of Isi Life Mein, said Bollywood dance will never die, and the new dance forms have a long way to go.

“The typical Bollywood dance is a mix of jhatkas and matkas that will never die. But it’s amazing to see that the industry is giving space to these international dance forms. People have had enough of the same old style,” said Sandeepa.

“The international dance formats are at in their initial stages in our country right now while the typical masala dancing has been there for many years. They might co-exist but neither can take over the other’s place.”
