A Closer Look at the Latino Designers On the Premios Billboard Red Carpet

Latino designers had a strong presence on the 2011 Premios Billboard red carpet. Below is a breakdown of some of the fabulous fashion designers you should know:


Designer: Rafael Cennamo


Background: Venezuela and Italy

Fashion history: Began his career dressing Venezuelan models and beauty queens before he went off to study at IFAC in Miami. Soon after his designs gained popularity and he opened his first studio in 2006 in Venezuela allowing him to launch his couture label the same year and a Bridal collection for Spring 2010. 

Has dressed: Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Rosario Dawson

Where to find: Neiman Marcus and high-end retail stores around the world.


Designer: Angel Sanchez

Background: Venezuela

Fashion history: After being an architect for 2 years, Sanchez made the leap to fashion design and launched his first eveningwear label in Caracas, Venezuela in 1987. After gaining international recognition, he relocated  to New York and in 1999 created a popular bridal collection, followed by a lower-priced cocktail dresses and separates collection 10 years later called Angel by Angel Sanchez.

Designer: Elisa Jimenez

Background: Mexico

Fashion history: At age 5, she was already sewing her own hems and clothes for her dolls. With a MA in Fine Arts , Elisa started her "Hunger World" line of clothes in 1996. Once Vogue noticed her, she began a lucrative career as a designer debuting her collection at New York's Fall 2001 fashion week. In 2007 Jimenez was a contestant on the fourth season of Project Runway and while she didn’t win, she is still a successful designer.

Has dressed: Jennifer Connelly for her character in Requiem for a Dream, Marisa Tomei, Courtney Love, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sex and the City, Pink, Cameron Diaz

Designer: Gustavo Cadile

Background: Argentina

Fashion history: Began his career at the age of 17 in Buenos Aires until he went to Miami on vacation and decided to live there. He received his degree from the International Fine Arts College in Miami and then went off to spend 3 ½ years in Italy working in fashion houses and later landed a gig at Perry Ellis. He launched his first collection in 2005 and since then has been nominated, in 2008 and 2009, as Rising Star for the Fashion Group International in NY.

Has dressed: Roselyn Sanchez, Demi Lovato, Kim Kardashian, Dania Ramirez, and Eva Longoria

Where to find: Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and many boutique and specialty stores in North America


Designer: Rosita Hurtado

Background: Bolivia

Fashion history: After beginning Law studies in her country, her love of fashion had her jet setting around the world studying fashion design. She eventually started her own company in a Bolivia, RH Creaciones. She has focused on making Bolivia part of the Fashion world with annual fashion festivals as well as traveling the world representing her country.

Has dressed: Many Latin Television and Soap opera stars.

Designer: Ecliptica

Background: Puerto Rico

Fashion history: This fashion design sister duo knew they wanted to design clothes since the age of 15, so soon after studying art and marketing at the University of San Juan and a 2 year fashion design program, in 2001 they created their fashion line Ecliptica that was well received from the start. 

Has dressed: Roselyn Sanchez, Adamari Lopez, Dayanara Torres, Hilary Duff and Nelly Furtado
