A Closer Look at the Latino Designers On the Premios Billboard Red Carpet

Latino designers had a strong presence on the 2011 Premios Billboard red carpet. Below is a breakdown of some of the fabulous fashion designers you should know:

Designer: Rafael Cennamo

Background: Venezuela and Italy

Fashion history: Began his career dressing Venezuelan models and beauty queens before he went off to study at IFAC in Miami. Soon after his designs gained popularity and he opened his first studio in 2006 in Venezuela allowing him to launch his couture label the same year and a Bridal collection for Spring 2010. 

Has dressed: Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Rosario Dawson

Where to find: Neiman Marcus and high-end retail stores around the world.

Designer: Angel Sanchez

Background: Venezuela

Fashion history: After being an architect for 2 years, Sanchez made the leap to fashion design and launched his first eveningwear label in Caracas, Venezuela in 1987. After gaining international recognition, he relocated  to New York and in 1999 created a popular bridal collection, followed by a lower-priced cocktail dresses and separates collection 10 years later called Angel by Angel Sanchez.

Designer: Elisa Jimenez

Background: Mexico

Fashion history: At age 5, she was already sewing her own hems and clothes for her dolls. With a MA in Fine Arts , Elisa started her "Hunger World" line of clothes in 1996. Once Vogue noticed her, she began a lucrative career as a designer debuting her collection at New York's Fall 2001 fashion week. In 2007 Jimenez was a contestant on the fourth season of Project Runway and while she didn’t win, she is still a successful designer.

Designer: Gustavo Cadile

Background: Argentina

Fashion history: Began his career at the age of 17 in Buenos Aires until he went to Miami on vacation and decided to live there. He received his degree from the International Fine Arts College in Miami and then went off to spend 3 ½ years in Italy working in fashion houses and later landed a gig at Perry Ellis. He launched his first collection in 2005 and since then has been nominated, in 2008 and 2009, as Rising Star for the Fashion Group International in NY.

Designer: Rosita Hurtado

Background: Bolivia

Fashion history: After beginning Law studies in her country, her love of fashion had her jet setting around the world studying fashion design. She eventually started her own company in a Bolivia, RH Creaciones. She has focused on making Bolivia part of the Fashion world with annual fashion festivals as well as traveling the world representing her country.

Has dressed: Many Latin Television and Soap opera stars.

Background: Puerto Rico

Fashion history: This fashion design sister duo knew they wanted to design clothes since the age of 15, so soon after studying art and marketing at the University of San Juan and a 2 year fashion design program, in 2001 they created their fashion line Ecliptica that was well received from the start.

"Anu Raina Collection- LG Canadian Fashion Week 2011"

Anu Raina’s story began in Srinagar, Kashmir where she was born and raised. A forced mass exodus from her homeland led her to pursue her undergraduate degree in Biology from Delhi University. However strong urge to be in a creative field led her to enrol in a Fashion Program at the London College of Fashion, London, England. Upon completion of her Fashion program, she went on to set up an apparel and textiles start-up "Just Beans" in Delhi.

Before moving to Canada in 2004, Anu participated in several design shows across the globe in cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Paris and Frankfurt. In 2008, she enrolled herself in the Textile Design program at the Sheridan College.

Anu completed the program within 2 years and graduated in 2010 with High Honours, top medal and several awards and scholarships. In this short span her Textile work has already been shown at a number of well-respected venues across North America including being selected as an Artist-in-Residence at the prestigious Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.

Her recent autobiographical art work titled "Chapter 2, Page 1" has been selected for an upcoming exhibition at the Pearson Airport from 16 April - 3 October, 2011. Her Fall 2011, debut line of clothing that she is showing at the The LG Fashion week in Toronto on April 1, 2011 is inspired by her art work “Chapter 2, Page1. Currently Anu lives in Oakville, Ontario with her husband and two children.

Eva Longoria’s Triple-Stacked Faux Fringe

Jennifer Lopez’s Long Lower Lashes

Kat Deluna’s Black Widow Lashes
These spidery, long lashes are super dramatic because they go past the outer corners of Kat’s eyes. To do this, first draw your eyeliner on thick and kick it out towards your temples, then place the lash strip off-center so that it extends out as well. Adrienne Bailon’s Spike Lashes

Separated and pointed lashes draw all the focus to Adrienne’s gaze (which is why she can keep the rest of her makeup so neutral). The lash length is just right: long enough to flirt, short enough to look realistic. Don’t be scared to trim the length and width to make a strip fit your lids perfectly. Guess it’s fitting for Kat to go for cat-like fringe! Line your entire eyelid with black liquid liner (I like Black Radiance Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, $3.99, walgreens.com), extending the bottom line out past the outside corner of your eye, then apply a volumizing mascara (like CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion, $8, target.com) to the top and bottom lashes, adding a few extra coats near the outer corners.

Little dancers Daniel and Katherine opened the Momentum Fashion Dance show by fabulous salsa performance after which, Elena V presented exquisite and unique Fashion - Dance Show featuring her new active wear collection called “MOMENTUM” Momentum is a fitness gear, designed with concept of modern luxury mixed with comfort and style, targeting training and performance beyond definition. This versatile sport collection for men and women is inspired by vibrant, dynamic energy of New York, the city that never sleeps. The fusion of cultures, the sounds and rhythms of clave and conga, inspiring people around the globe to celebrate their inner and outer beauty, well being, and life itself.

The Best and Worst of Grammy Fashion

As we gear up for the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday, February 13, we cannot help but think of the fashion from Grammys past. For whatever reason, this particular awards show seems to bring out the adventurous side of our celebs. Some of the looks have been unforgettable, and others, quite frankly, we wish we never saw.

Check out our picks for the best and worst of Grammy fashion, and tell us who you think deserves to take the crown for very best and the thumbs down for awful worst on the red carpet.

Best: Jennifer Lopez put herself on the fashion map when she wore Versace's barely-there green floral dress when accompanying date Sean 'Puff Daddy' Combs to the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000.

Worst: When performing with husband Marc Anthony in 2005, she overwhelmed her curvy frame with an excess of pale blue fabric and silver-and-gold sparkles.

Best: When she won Best Latin Pop Album in 2001, Shakira showed off the wild style we expect from her in a gold lace and beaded Maria Vazquez gown with gold pointy-toed boots and golden curls.

Worst: While performing 'Hips Don't Lie' with Wyclef Jean at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007, she went for gold again in a rather boring bandeau and skirt ensemble. Guess she wanted the focus on her hips, not her outfit.

Best: During her retro phase in 2007, Christina Aguilera was classy in her pale Emanuel Ungaro sweetheart strapless gown, nude peep toes and sculpted curls.

Worst: At the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001, she was the opposite of classy in a pink Trish Summerville lace-up dress with blond, beaded braids and oversized gold earrings.

Best: Fergie went all out glam in 2008 with a pale yellow Calvin Klein strapless dress, gold strappy sandals, a gold clutch and a diamond necklace.

Worst: Four years earlier in 2004, she went way too revealing in a white plunging fringe dress with a silver beaded clutch and silver sandals.
