Salsa fever burns up

SALSA fever will soon take over Gladstone, with Gladstone's Women's International Network holding a “Caribbean-Latino Experience,” tomorrow night at the entertainment centre.

It is the third year the organisation has held the event, although this is the first year they have added the Caribbean element.

“It's going to be a bit different, exciting, a lot of fun and a really great social event,” event organiser Natalia Muzkat said.

“We've worked really hard this year to secure some top-notch entertainment – the sort of entertainment that Gladstone has never seen before.”

The night will feature professional dancers, South American singers and musicians and a Jamaican DJ.
“People don't have to dance if they don't want to, but we would love it if they did,” Ms Muzkat said.
“The professional dancers will put on a show, but they will also be helping people learn the moves so it should be a lot of good fun.”

The food and drink will also be in keeping with the Caribbean/Latino theme, with a light supper of Jamaican cuisine being served along with plenty of sangria.

“We all love a bit of sangria,” Ms Muzkat laughed.
“And there will be coffee and cake afterwards.”

Apart from being a great night out, the event has a larger meaning for WIN and the Gladstone community.
“For us, it's a way of sharing the culture of different people that live in the area. It's about building a harmonious, cohesive and happy community,” Ms Muzkat said.

“There's a lot of diversity in Gladstone, and I think events like these help (people) receive different cultures with positive attitudes and welcoming arms.”

Already 200 tickets have been sold, with more expected to be snapped up at the door.
“This will be a great night out for couples, groups, friends, co-workers or anyone looking to experience anything out of the ordinary,” Ms Muzkat said.

Proceeds from the evening will go to local charities.
You can pre-purchase tickets to the night of Caribbean/Latino flair from the Gladstone entertainment centre, on their website http://gec.gladstonerc.qld.gov.au/ or by calling 4972 2822.
