In Puerto Rico, Spanish couple Ana Santos and Adrián Rodríguez won their third salsa dancing title at the "2011 Puerto Rico Salsa Congress." The Congress is in its 10th year and the Santos/Rodríguez duo repeated their success, having won the title in 2007 and 2008.
The Puerto Rico Salsa Congress is considered the most prestigious dance competition in that most tropical of rhythms. This year's competition had dancers from four continents representing 17 countries. Behind the Spanish champions were Carine Morais and Rafael Barros, from Brazil, with third place going to local favorites Kelvin Hernández and Licellot Maldonado and fourth place going to Mexicans David Zepeda and Paulina Posadas. First place prize money was 5,000 dollars, with 3,000 dollars for second place and 2,000 dollars for third.
In the Groups competition, the Venezuelan dance troupe called Casino Stars took first place while Karamba, from Argentina, came in second. Third place went to a combined Venezuela/Puerto Rico group called Veneboricua.
