Puerto Rican artist Ricky Martin said that he will not be marrying his partner, despite rumors of wedding plans.
“In my house we don’t speak of marriage,” said the singer in an encounter with the Mexican press as he was promoting his new album “Music + Soul + Sex.”
Most of questions asked revolved around Martin’s coming out as a gay man, which he answered openly and cordially.
“I am not getting married, we are good how we are and we’ve been together for three years now,” he said about his relationship with fellow Puerto Rican Carlos González.
“In my house everyone knew,” he explained adding that now he walks with “his head high” and lives with “incredible calm.”
Sporting his new Mohawk and designer Armani wear, an elegant Martin says he has always considered sexuality to be an important element in his career and on stage.
“I’ve always taken sexuality as something very natural, something fun to play with,” he said.
For his “Music + Soul + Sex” tour, which began March 25th in Puerto Rico and will be heading to Mexico beginning May 14, the singer promised a “very theatrical” show, influenced by the sensuality seen in cabarets and in carnival.
Martin says he is anxious to express two years of accumulated energy, time he “literally spent closed in his studio,” making the album in which he says he’s “taking many risks” and has gone in a musical adventure fusing genres of music.
“I sat and listened to what I liked, what is playing in Europe, a lot of ‘world music,’ that is what I love. I played around with ‘dance,’” explained Martin about the music process.
Despite the changes, he says he doesn’t want to lose his essence. Yes to evolution, but no to “breaking what hasn’t yet broke,” said the artist.
