The Top 25 Latina Skin Care Tips

1. Keep Skin Clear with Green Tea: In addition to a salicylic acid cleanser (to unclog pores) and a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment (to dry up zits), use an oil-free moisturizer with green tea (try Replenix Power of Three, $68; amazon.com). Studies show that green tea helps improve acne by up to 58 percent, says NYC dermatologist Miguel Sanchez, M.D.

2. Get Your Vitamin D Fix: Vitamin D promotes bone growth and prevents osteoporosis, Austin dermatologist Mary Ann Martinez, M.D., says. Women with dark skin tones don’t absorb the sun as easily, which prevents them from getting enough vitamin D. The solution: Take a vitamin D supplement daily (look for one with 400 to 1,000 IU). Or if you’re pale and want more color, swipe on Dr. Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad with Active Vitamin D ($32; nordstrom.com).

3. Look for Lip Gloss with SPF: Shiny lip gloss intensifies the sun's effect on your lips. When you're outside, swipe on a gloss with SPF 15, like Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 ($14; bloomingdales.com).

4. Protect Your Skin Daily: New studies show that it only takes 15 minutes for the sun to damage skin cells—no matter what your skin tone is. "We're seeing increased damage in 30-something Latinas with dark skin tones," says Miami dermatologist Loretta Ciraldo, M.D. "These women were less likely to wear sunscreen in their teens and 20s than those with lighter skin tones." To be safe, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 like Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 30 ($16.99; drugstore.com) every day.

5. Make Bronzer Your BFF: Bronzer brings out the gorgeous warm tones in your skin while covering up any imperfections. Darker skin tones should try a brownish red color, like Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Dark ($33; nordstrom.com). If you're fair, go for a pinkish brown, like Lancôme Star Bronzer in Sunkissed ($36.50; lancome-usa.com).

6. Use the Right Amount of SPF: Visualize a shot glass. Now squeeze enough sunscreen into your palm to fill your imaginary shot glass. That's the amount you need to cover your body, Martinez says.

7. Go for Glycolic Acid: "It exfoliates, fades pigmentation, and isn't abrasive," says Anthony Gonzalez, Avon's Global Research and Development Senior Manager. Try Avon Anew Rejuvenate Glycolic Facial ($16.45; amazon.com) or Olay Regenerist Resurfacing Elixir ($23.49; drugstore.com) nightly.

8. Use Gentle Exfoliators: Gritty scrubs are often too strong for Latina skin, and can create manchas. Choose an exfoliator with round jojoba beads (we like Chella Exfoliating Cleanser, $35; chella.com), not ground up nuts or beans, which can cause tiny cuts.

9. Give Toner Another Try: Old toners were full of alcohol, which caused skin to break out instead of clearing it up. The latest toners (hydrating mists or clarifying lotions, like Origins A Perfect World Liquid Moisture with White Tea, ($31.64; amazon.com) contains nourishing extracts, vitamins, and antioxidants. Apply moisturizer directly after the toner to seal in hydration, Martinez says.

10. Take a Break from Polish: "Nail polish remover irritates nails, making them thin and fragile," Sanchez says. If your nails start to crack, go polish-free and apply a thick shea butter cream, like Nubian Heritage Mango Butter ($7.95; amazon.com) before bed.

11. Reach for Retinoids: Smooth fine lines! Even out your skin tone! Banish pimples! A prescription retinoid has the power to do all of this. And the new generic version is only $30, Sanchez says. Don't want a prescription? Try Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair with Retinol SA ($18.20; amazon.com).

12. See a Doc for Brown Spots: Latinas are very susceptible to melasma, which darkens certain areas of the skin, Martinez says. And when you take oral contraceptives, are pregnant or get sun exposure, it can get worse. If your brown spots are severe, visit a board-certified dermatologist, who can give you a prescription for a hydroquinone cream.

13. Moisturize After You Wash Your Hands: Although washing your hands cleans them, it also dries them out. Keep a bottle of moisturizer by the sink and put it on your hands immediately after you wash, Sanchez says.

14. Try a Strip-Free Wax: Waxing can inflame our skin, which makes it blotchy and uneven. Take a break from scrubs, prescription acne medicine, and retinols for ten days before waxing, Ciraldo recommends. Also consider a wax that pulls off without cloth strips (like Sally Hansen Simple Spa Wax Kit, $21.99; amazon.com) since it's less irritating.

15. Pop Pimples with Q-tips: First, try not to pick your zit (you may make a scar), but if you absolutely must squeeze, press on each side with a swab like Q-tips Cotton Swabs ($4.99; drugstore.com). Stop if they bend, then you've pushed too hard.

16. Heal Itchy Skin Fast: Ceramides make up about half of the outer layer of your skin. Use a lotion that contains them like Curel Itch Defense ($7.99; drugstore.com) to restore what you lose when skin gets dry and itchy.

17. Choose a Creamy Wash: Gel body washes might strip moisture from the skin, but a cream formulas like Dove VisibleCare ($8.29; drugstore.com) creates a lipid barrier that prevents moisture loss, Sanchez says.

18. Boost Your Glow Gradually: If you go to tanning beds, you're seven times more likely to get melanoma, Martinez says. It's just not worth it. Want to glow? Because your skin already has a lot of golden tones, try a gradual tanner and moisturizer combo, like Jergens Natural Glow Foaming Daily Moisturizer ($10.18; amazon.com).

19. Ask for the "Latina Laser": If you're springing for laser hair removal, look for a doctor who uses a Q-switch ND/YAG laser, which is made for Latina skin tones. Other lasers aren't, so to avoid scarring the technician must crank the laser's beam so low that it won't be effective, Sanchez says.

20. Opt for Clear or Tinted Formulas: Are you sick and tired of beauty products washing out your color? Here are three we swear won't:

• Sunscreen: Supergoop! Sunscreen Swipes SPF 30 ($34; amazon.com)

• Serum: bareMinerals Pure Transformation Night Treatment ($60; qvc.com) is a powder that comes in five different tints and covers imperfections.

• Moisturizer: mark Calm & Composed Super-Soothing Moisturizer ($18; avon.com) is a sheer, cooling gel.

21. Make Shaving Your Go-to Hair Removal Method: Shaving is cheap, easy, and safe. "I'm a Latina dermatologist, and it's what I do," Martinez says. Bonus: The razor exfoliates, which helps with texture and wrinkles.

22. Press, Don't Rub Makeup Off: Saturate a cotton pad with makeup remover (like Benefit Remove It, $21; sephora.com), then gently hold it over each eye for ten seconds. This gives the product a chance to work and stops you from rubbing your makeup off harshly. Use this technique with nail polish remover, too!

23. Listen to Music While You Wax: Wear headphones and crank up the tunes while you get (or give) yourself a bikini wax. The music helps distract you from the big rip.

24. Simplify Your Skin Care Regimen: When you layer too many products, you dilute them and they tend to pill up. Look for a double-duty formula, like Miracle Skin Transformer SPF 20 ($48; beauty.com), which is a tinted moisturizer with antioxidants and SPF. As a general rule, apply antioxidants in the morning and a retinol or glycolic acid at night, says Sanchez.

25. Remember to Wear Bug Spray: A bug bite is likely to leave a dark mark on skin for years. "The further down the body, the harder it is to remove," Ciraldo says. If you do get bitten, apply one percent hydrocortisone twice a day to lighten up the spot.

The Richest Teen Stars

The teen stars with the highest bankrolls --
in no particular order.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez makes $25,000 for each episode of Wizards of Waverly Place. Add that to what she earns touring with her band Selena & the Scene, plus album sales, and she's up there with the richest teens around.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato makes $12,000 per episode of her show Sonny with a Chance, and is worth a reported $3 million. Though she's not the richest teen by a long shot, Forbes predicts she's a big star to watch in the next few years -- even warning Miley Cyrus to watch out of for her fellow Disney darling!

Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus made a whopping $48 million from June 2009-June 2010 with the help of her hit show Hannah Montana, a 57-date tour that earned about $1.2 million each night, her flick The Last Song, and royalties from Miley Cyrus lunch boxes, T-shirts, backpacks, shoes, pencils, and more. She's ranked 13 on Forbes' 100 Richest Celebrities list this year, up from the 29th spot last year.

Taylor Swift
Kinda came out of nowhere to become one of the most powerful teen celebs around. She wasn't even ranked on Forbes Most Powerful Celebs list last year, now she's at the 12 spot. The country cutie made $45 million from June 2009 to June 2010, and was the most-played artist on the radio in 2009. Her CoverGirl and Sony endorsements gave her a big boost, as well as the 3.2 million copies of Fearless her fans bought, legally.

Daniel Radcliffe

The Happy Potter franchise has made Daniel Radcliffe a few pretty pennies. He made $25 million from June 2009-June 2010 and we're betting he'll make it just fine in Hollywood even though the last installment of hit series will be released in 2011. Big things are ahead for this British star.

Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart has Twilight to thank all the way to the bank. She made $12 million from June 2009 to June 2010, thanks to the vampire franchise that has already earned $1 billion at the box office. With the last 2 movies still in the works, we're guessing Ms. Stewart will continue to make big money. Plus, the roles will likely keep on coming as long as she wants them.

Miranda Cosgrove
iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove gets paid $180,000 by Nickelodeon for each episode of the hit show, making her the second-highest paid teen TV star around. The 17-year-old reportedly signed a multimillion dollar deal in March to do 26 more episodes of the show. She also has a budding singing career and is a celebrity ambassador for Neutrogena.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber sold out Madison Square Garden this year, and reportedly has a net worth of $5.5 million. The 16-year-old was discovered on YouTube and Usher took him under his wing, and he's been pretty much set ever since. The little ladies love him, and that's probably why his sophomore album sold nearly 700,000 copies in just 3 weeks.

Abigail Breslin
At 14, Abigail Breslin has already been acting for over a decade. She made $1.5 million for her Oscar-nominated role in Little Miss Sunshine, and now earns about $4 million per film. She's reportedly worth about $14 million.

Angus T. Jones
Angus T. Jones makes the most money of any other teen star on TV. Get this: The 16-year-old makes a whopping $250,000 for each episode of Two and a Half Men! That's $1 million for a month's worth of shows, for those of you who aren't mathematically inclined. He was only 10 when he started on the sitcom.

Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning pretty much grew up behind the cameras, and her hard work pays off. The 16-year-old reportedly makes about $4 million a year, and was ranked the 3rd Most Valuable Teen Star by Forbes last year.

Penelope’s Black Dress for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Premieres is Fashion Faux Pas?

Penelope Cruz is a certified black dress aficionada as this was her favorite color whenever she attended red carpet events. She was always looking lovely whenever she donned a black dress that really accentuates her admirable figure.

But this time around, it seems that her favorite black dress that she wore during her latest movie with best friend co-star Jonny Dep to the premiere of  Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides didn’t get the solid 100% applause from the web commentators and from the fashion enthusiasts.

Both positive and negative comments were thrown against the dress she rocked during the premiere night of the movie held at Disneyland, California. She was wearing a off the shoulder feathery fishtail black Marchesa gown that perfectly curves her hour glass figure.

Some said that the dress was lovely and really glamorous.
“I love how Penelope looks – she brings classiness to whatever she does. This dress shows off her stunning figure and looks really glamorous too. Penelope has finished off her look with a great updo hairstyle, dangling silver earrings and pretty natural, subtle makeup. Another triumphant ensemble that unlike a POTC film, doesn’t get boring after looking at it for 5 minutes,”

It was indeed a show stopping gown as one major site commented “It's an unusually dramatic piece for a movie premiere—plus, a style that the new mamacita just can't quit—but there's no doubting Pen looks gorgeous (if we don't count the ponytail fail)”

A huge fan of hers,  admires her look by saying, “Her low-neck black dress which hugged her curves perfectly and gave no indication that she had recently given birth to baby boy Leo”

But another said that this is just a same old style of dress the actress dons every red carpet event.

“She basically wears the same style of black dress with just a different texture!” as per one commentator.

Others commented that she was overly dressed while her co-stars are just in their plain casual dresses especially the lead character Johnny Depp who wore a very relaxed casual attire.

More so, this particular dress that she wore at the Moscow premiere of the movie gained double criticism throughout the blogosphere. Some really commented very negatively like this

“Yikes! Penélope transforms from hot young mom to sad old maid in this high-neck velvet Emilio Pucci dress at the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere in Moscow”

Someone posted, “Penelope Cruz looked like she wearing one of the Pirates costumes at a photocall It's not a very spring-like dress, but we get the reference to Russia.”

“It’s going to be a very long and boring promo tour if Penelope doesn’t start mixing things up. She looks awful! That huge bow distracts me from a dress that could have been nice. It looks better on the model. It looks so heavy on Penelope. And black. For God’s sake does she know that there are other colours out there?” a blogger named Lil said.

Elle says: I don’t understand why Penelope insists on wearing black! She looks a lot older in this photo too… She’s such a beauty who looked absolutely gorgeous wearing pinks and reds in “Woman on Top”, I wish she would go back to colour soon! (Plus, I really don’t think those bangs suit her that much either)..ok rant over haha.

Ok, it’s your turn to judge her look? Is it a Yay or a Nay?

We could not think of anyone easier, breezier or more beautiful than Colombian actress Sofia Vergara so we can't say we're in the least bit surprised that she has been named the newest face of COVERGIRL cosmetics!

Sister Act: Famous Latinas and Their Hermanas

Isn’t it crazy how Pippa Middleton has emerged as the real star of the Royal Wedding?
That got us thinking: Who of our “royalty” has a sister they have shared the spotlight with at one time?

Penelope and Monica Cruz

How lucky is little baby Leo to have a mami and tia as beautiful as Penelope and Monica Cruz? While Penelope’s star has risen higher, the Spanish actresses have famously come together several times. Once to promote their Mango clothing line, once in a video for their brother, singer and Eva Longoria’s beau Eduardo Cruz and most recently Monica was Penelope’s body double in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Demi Lovato and Madison de la Garza

Most people don’t realize that Eva Longoria’s adorable daughter on Desperate Housewives is actually the half-sister of mega star Demi Lovato. Demi and Madison share more than their mother and their small screen success. Madison has been very supportive of her troubled older sister, while Demi has spoken out about the bullying both she and her sister have suffered about their weight.

Jennifer and Lynda Lopez

Jennifer may be able to claim that she is the most beautiful woman in the world but journalist and Latina contributor Lynda Lopez can always claim she is younger and was on radio first! Lynda began her career as a DJ in New York in the early 1990s and has anchored several newscasts, including in her current position as a news anchor with WCBS-AM. Lynda has interviewed her famous sister many times, most recently on the set of American Idol for Latina.

The Estevez Brothers and Renee

Ok, so Renee is the only sister in this famous family, but she is arguably the unsung Estevez sibling. While she famously co-starred with her father Martin Sheen on the West Wing (playing presidential secretary Nancy), she has also shared the screen with her famous—and infamous—brothers. She had a cameo in No Code of Conduct, starring brother Charlie, and was directed by brother Emilio in The War at Home. But get this, Renee is a trained pastry chef and according to her web site she mostly gets in the kitchen to cook for her famous family.

Selena and Suzette Quintanilla

The Quintanilla family was—and still is—famously close knit but Selena and her older sister Suzette shared s special bond. Suzette was Selena’s drummer, her partner in her boutiques and her confidant. Suzette still runs the family business, Q-Productions including the Selena foundation.
