TV Round-Up: Chaz Bono Calls 'DWTS' a 'Life Changing Experience'

• Chaz Bono's groundbreaking stint on Dancing With the Stars ended last night. Chaz, who was the first transgendered person to appear on the show, told reporters that he was "not leaving the show bitter and angry." (via EW)

"I feel really good. I’m just grateful to have had the experience," Chaz said. "I’m grateful for Lacey and for everybody that I worked with on Dancing with the Stars. It was a wonderful, life changing experience. I’m so glad I did it.”

Mama Cher, meanwhile, was so angry about Chaz's elimination that she tweeted that she "could cut a bitch." Yowza!

• Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco is engaged! The 25-year-old actress will marry Josh Resnik, who works as an addiction specialist (via People). The pair have yet to set a wedding date.

• Dawson's going to be a Dad again! James Van Der Beek announced via Twitter, "Just when we thought we couldn't feel any more blessed, it seems the universe has plans to give our daughter [Olivia, 13 months] a sibling." What do you think Pacey and Joey will get the new baby?

Who Got Voted Off Dancing With The Stars 10/11/11?

Tonight is the fourth Dancing With The Stars elimination show.   The remaining nine contestants danced to theme songs from a popular movie.  If you missed the episode catch our official recap here!   We have have already lost Ron Artest  , Elisabetta Canalis and Kristin Cavallari.   It is anyone’s guess who will go home tonight.

At the top of the leaderboard is Ricky Lake and Derek Hough who danced the Tango to the theme from Psycho.  They scored a 29.  At the bottom of the leaderboard is Carson Kressley and Professional Dancer Anna Trebunskaya who scored a 20 for their Viennese Waltz.  They are followed by Chaz Bono and Professional Dancer Lacey Schwimmer who scored a 21 for their Paso Doble!

The poll we conducted yesterday has our viewers opinion of who is going home split down the middle.   25% of viewers think Chaz Bono will be voted out tonight and 28.75% think that Nancy Grace will be voted out.  But it’s not over until the votes are counted and the loser is named so stay tuned to find out who goes home!

The musical guest tonight is Raphael Saddiq who will sing Soul Man and Susan Boyle who will sing Unchained Melody.

The first couple safe tonight and who will be around to dance another week is Ricki Lake and Professional Dancer Derek Hough also safe is Jr. Martinez and Professional Dancer Karina Smirnoff.

In jeopardy is Rob Kardashian and Professional Dancer Cheryl Burke.

Chaz Bono and Professional Dancer Lacey Schwimmer are safe and also safe are Carson Kressley and Professional Dancer Anna Trebunskaya.

Chynna Phillips and Professional Dancer Tony Dovolani are in jeopardy.

Hope Solis and Professional Dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy are safe and Nancy Grace and Professional Dancer Tristan McManus are in jeopardy.

David Arquette and Professional Dancer Kym Johnson are also safe.

Nancy Grace and Professional Dancer Tristan McManus is safe.

Rob Kardashian and Professional Dancer Cheryl Burke is safe.

Poll of the Day: Is 'Dancing With the Stars' Just a Big Popularity Contest?

Despite landing in last place for the second consecutive week, Chaz Bono will continue strutting his transgendered stuff on Dancing with the Stars. Going home: Kristin Cavallari, whose solid score of 24 points couldn't prevent her from being voted off the show. Recalling Bristol Palin's contentious run back in 2010 -- she continually received low scores from the judges only to get voted through week after week -- we wonder if the popular ABC show has little to do with dancing and everything to do with your popularity level.

But first, yesterday's poll: After the guy split up with Blake Lively, we wondered which of Leonardo DiCaprio's incredibly good looking ex-girlfriends was the sexiest. Turns out the majority of Zimbio readers feel Bar Refaeli wins that title. Even though his former fling Gisele may have more riches and name value, 52 percent of you prefer looking at the uncomfortably hot Israeli model.

But back to Dancing with the Stars. Bono scored six points lower than Cavallari, but had enough fan support to survive elimination. And as we mentioned earlier, Bristol Palin beat the odds last year when she rode a stuffed ballot -- not a mechanical bull -- into the final round. At the time, many questioned the integrity of the show, one that was meant to primarily showcase talented dancers, not just popular names.

When it came down to last night's elimination match up, Cavallari and Mark Ballas were pitted against goalie Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. And even though we doubt most Americans could spell Chmerkovskiy's last name if they were paid to try, the Russian survived, buoyed by the popularity of his soccer star partner.

When Solo and her teammates took on Japan in the Women's World Cup final this past July, a whopping 13.4 million viewers tuned in to watch. In comparison, just 2.1 million Americans saw the 2009 premiere of Cavallari's The Hills. So it's hard not to wonder if fans of the show were driven to vote for who they knew, rather than who could perform the best samba.

Dancing With The Stars: J.R. Martinez Waltzes to the Top

J.R. Martínez waltzed his way into the judges hearts as he owned the ballroom with partner Karina Smirnoff on the 13th season premiere of Dancing with the Stars Monday night.

The show kicked off at 7pm on ABC, from Los Angeles, Calif.

With swift moves and confidence Martínez swayed Smirnoff to and fro putting the former Army veteran and his partner in the lead as one of the top contenders striving to win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy.

"For me J.R. Stands for "Just Right" said DWTS judge Len Goodman. “The best performances of the night, you were right up there."

Goodman’s fellow judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba agreed.

"[You were] right on top tonight, Tonioli said. "I can't wait to see the Latin, because you did very, very well in the waltz.”

“You're able to bring emotional quality to your dance,” added Inaba. “"I was absolutely touched by your performance.”

Martínez, a former infantry man who in Iraq suffered severe burns while on deployment, endured 32 surgeries in 34 months. He is known for his acting skills on the popular soap opera All My Children.

The couple closed the night with a 22 point lead and are tied with competitors Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani's whose waltz also caught the judges’ eyes.

Other notable contestants include Chaz Bono, formerly known as Chastity Bono—the first transsexual contestant of the show.

Bono impressed the judges, especially Goodman with his “good footwork” and “right attitude.”
Cher’s son and dance partner earned a solid 17 points for strutting their stuff with a good attitude

“I had no idea you were so cuddly and cute,” Tonioli wailed. “I think people have been waiting all night to see you, Chaz,” Inaba said. “You did not disappoint!"

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Boots First Celeb From The Ballroom

“Dancing with the Star’s” most controversial season has one less celebrity contender competing for mirrorball glory.

On Tuesday, NBA star Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest), said peace out to the ballroom, taking newcomer to the celebrity competition, professional partner Peta Mergatroyd, out of the game as well.

“I had a great, great time… [It was] awesome,” Metta said after learning the news.

Metta and Peta’s dance – a cha cha – wasn’t a hit with the judges on Monday night, although Carrie Anne Inaba did give the Laker points for his style.

“Now we know who the wild one is gonna be. You’re sort of eccentric, and yet, kind of sexy. It works,” she said.

“Cha cha’s a sexy dance, and I thought that worked, but it was kind of wrong for all the technical reasons,” she added.

The elimination news came as a relief to Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus, and Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke, who were also left until the end of the show to find out they were actually safe.

Although his sprightly cha cha helped Chaz Bono make it through to another week with partner Lacey Schwimmer, the activist admitted to co-host Tom Bergeron earlier in the evening that performing last on Monday night created additional pressure.

“It was hard to watch everybody go and I was rooting for everybody, but in the back of my mind was still, ‘Oh my God! I still have to go do this.’ So it was nerve wracking,” he said.

Italian model and television presenter Elisabetta Canalis and partner Val Chmerkovskiy — who many thought might be in danger of elimination — were surprised to learn they would be back another week after they landed near the bottom of the leaderboard on Monday evening.

Their cha cha didn’t please the judges, especially Len Goodman, who hated the group’s use of a prop – a bed — in the ballroom.

“It was just wishful thinking that I tried to portray on the show,” Val said on Tuesday’s show, reflecting on using the device. “I try to get everything out of the way in the first episode.

“I just wanted to take my shirt off and be in bed,” he added.

Next week — with the quickstep — things will be tough on the underdog pair, as it was revealed on Tuesday night that Elisabetta was born with an injury to her shoulder, making being spun out by her partner, extremely painful.

“Dancing with the Stars” returns on Monday at 8/7 C on ABC.

Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Kicks Off Tonight

The thirteenth season of Dancing With The Stars premieres tonight with a fresh cast of victims participants including actor David Arquette, model Elisabetta Canalis, talk show host Ricki Lake (who has already injured herself), TV host Nancy Grace, soccer star Hope Solo, and reality show thing Robert Kardashian.

Less famous names enduring DWTS’s ritual humiliation include Wilson Phillips, singer Chynna Phillips, Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis (perhaps best known for her relationship with George Clooney), and a chap called Carson Kressley, who Wikipedia informs me is a “fashion expert.” So there you go.

The name on everybody’s lips, however, is smiley Chaz Bono (above), the one-time daughter of Cher, who underwent sex change surgery and is now her son. Only last week, Bono was keen to point out his involvement won’t mean your kids will be corrupted for ever. It’s pretty damn ridiculous that he had to even point this out, but there you go. Said Chaz:

    “People who don’t have gender dysphoria aren’t going to catch it by watching me dance on television. I’m going to be dancing. I’m not up there talking about anything other than dancing.”

Er, apparently this is an issue for some people in a developed nation in 2011?

Anyway, tonight’s opening episode airs at 8pm on ABC, and will see the various celebrity hangers-on and desperadoes attempting the pasa doble, salsa, and other dance disciplines. Tom Bergeron is back to host.
