"IZMA collection- LG Canadian Fashion Week 2011"

At IZMA, a ‘70s era glam attitude resulted in a collection heavy on sex and glamour. Collarless coats in jewel tones with paneled imitation chainmail detailing, sumptuous boleros with metallic beading and fox stoles accented with woven chains took ladylike staples into bad gal territory. The way Izzy Camilleri and Adrian Mainella manipulated their environmentally sustainable furs into unlikely silhouettes, like an architectural tuxedo blazer or an airy caftan, was truly awe-inspiring.

The separates themselves — a velour jumpsuit in deep mustard, velvet dévoré mini dresses, chiffon palazzo pants — looked like they had been lifted right out of a Studio54 archive and could have used a little tweaking to bring them into the 21st century. But one could argue that the beauty of this collection lay in the details: Leather accents, crystal trims and glittery body stockings allowed models to maintain a sense of daredevil dignity under all those layers of chiffon and added just the right amount of imagination and creativity to a collection that could have easily coasted on its high-octane sex appeal.
