Shakira vs. Enrique Iglesias for Billboard Latin Music Awards Favorite Artist of the Year

Who do you think will shout victory on April 28? Will it be the shaky diva Shakira or the soul singer Enrique Iglesias? The final verdict depends on your votes!

The two indeed have a close fight in the nominations this year, as Enrique Iglesias tops the list with 14 nominations while Shakira got the second spot with 13 nominations and Chino y Nacho, the Venezuelan reggaeton duo landed on the third list with 9 nominations.

Enrique Iglesias album entitled Euphoria which was released in 2010 lifted his career on to a higher level and tagged him to be one of the best Latin artists for the year. This album is also his very first bilingual album with seven original English songs and six original Spanish songs.

The first song in the album "I Like It", which was released on May 2010 and features the rapper Pitbull, became number one in the US Billboard Hot 100. After few weeks, it soared high to number 1 on the Billboard Hot/Dance Club Play making him the male singer with most number one hits in the Billboard and has the chance to tie with the two most renowned artists in the music industry: Prince and the legendary Michael Jackson.

On January 2011, another song from his album Euphoria made it again in the top ten on the Billboard charts after just a week of airing. As of March 2011, it soared high and peaked at number 1 on the US Pop Songs Chart, making Enrique as the only male single artist to have 8 number one songs on almost all billboard charts. And this time, he already passed by Prince and Michael Jackson.  Wow!  Really amazing.  At 35, and still a bachelor, he is now a living legend in the music industry.

Shakira and Piqué snapped holding hands

On Sunday, new images surfaced of a very lovey-dovey Shakira and Gerard Piqué out for dinner, locking hands and smiling effusively.

In a matter of hours, the most sought after "it" couple appeared on the Internet, the media and even Shakira's Facebook page, where fans posted pictures that all but ruined a potential "scoop." Oops!

The online edition of El Pais reported that the images were captured outside a restaurant in Spain after a soccer match between Barcelona and the Athletic. Just outside the restaurant, six of the 15 photographers slated to snap shots of the couple together took their prized photos around 4:30 in the morning.

After word that a photograph of the pair engaged in a kiss would fetch millions, we imagine that paparazzi at the restaurant were saddened, if not a touch deflated, by the fact they couldn't cash in with the coveted "hot-handed" photos.

The images would've allegedly been nabbed exclusively by two magazines, but after a leak that the pair was at the restaurant, photos began to flood the Internet, which made obtaining the "hot-handed" jackpot a bit more difficult.

So now that the photos are out and an alleged romance appears obvious, should the pair announce their courtship publicly? First there were rumors to throw the scent of a possible love connection that went as far saying that Piqué was actually gay. Then subsequent reports say the pair is "just friends." Are they toying with the media? Anyway, have fun, kids!

Shakira Wins Big at France's NJR Music Awards 2011

celebrity-event

Our very own Shakira totally mesmerized  the show at the 12th annual NRJ Music Awards this weekend in Cannes, France. She won the awards (think: French GRAMMY) for international female artist of the year and international song of the year for her World Cup hit, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa.)” It was a great outcome for the international pop star who was making her first public appearance after the break up from her  long  term boyfriend Antonio de la Rua.

Shakira is extensively loved in the country and performed twice for her fans. The first performance was the World Cup single that is known worldwide, Waka Waka. The entertainer was joined on stage with several dozen dancers as they moved about the stage as she sung. The second single she performed was Loca. A sexy number that had Shakira in the audience shaking her hips and it didn’t stop on stage either. To the delight of the fans, she gave them a show for both songs.

On Salsa Circuit Top Ten Latin Songs, Shakiras’s  brand new single “Loca”  made it to the number 3 spot. The video for Loca was shot this summer in Barcelona, Spain where Shakira revealed it’s one of her favourite cities in the world. Her magnificent charm , candid personality  and sexiness while doing her trademark belly dancing was enough to have me dancing in no time.  I’m sure I did not girate like Shakira but it sure was a good workout!  Great song and we will see how it fares on our Weekly Top Ten.

Salsa Circuit’s weekly Top Ten Music Chart is published every Monday on our Facebook, Twitter and our www.salsacircuit.blogspot.com sites.  Check it out!
